“Beautiful main lodge”

We arrived here as the first stop on the land portion of our princess cruise. The main lobby and lower lodge area were spectacular. Very nicely decorated, a great gift store, couches by the fireplace and a little snack bar/coffee shop. We ate at the main restaurant and it was good but not great for the money. Try to get a table by the window, as the views are really nice of the river and mountains beyond. The lodge is rather spread out with little shops housed in cabins. We stayed in a building close to the main lodge which they said were the newer units. Nicely decorated and a decent size but we could hear the buses coming and going outside.
We went to Prospectors Pizza during our stay and it was very good and a neat atmosphere.

Room Tip: ask for a room in the newer units by the main lodge. some rooms are quite a long walk away from the...

“Great hotel on edge of Denali NP”

I stayed at the resort as part of a road trip in Alaska at end of September. It's a very large property with lots of different buildings, around 1 mile from entrance of Denali National Park. I think it caters for plenty of cruise ship passengers.

We were greet by friendly cxheck0-in staff, who were coming to the end of their season. We had a decent room with TV (decent selection of channels, although did watch many). Had a view over the nearby river (and I think we'd have seen Mount Mackinley if the weather was better). On the opposite side of the road (main rd btwn Anchorage and Fairbanks) were a string of souviner shops, which again were preparing to close up for the season.

There were also plenty of dining options on site, including the King Salmon restaurant which was excellent. (btwn 430pm & 530pm $20 salmon). Great service and wonderful view over Denali. It also does breakfast, which was tasty. Once again, this seemed to be preparing to close for season.

Not the cheapest accomodation in the world - but that's Alaska for you.

I would definately recommend, and would stay there again.

Room Tip: TRy and get a room close to main building, although ours was fine, although a short walk to restaura...

“It's OK....”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 November 2011

We chose to stay here in September 2011, despite reading some unfavorable reviews. There was a great "end-of-season" discount being offered in September. We were also quite worried about the quality of other lodging in the immediate area.
The room was adequate, though the walls and ceilings were very thin (= noise). The property was well maintained, but it had a very commercialized feeling. The food that we did eat there tasted very 'mass- prepared' (like you would probably expect with a cruise line lodge). We did feel a little awkward there, too, since the majority of the patrons were elderly, cruise ship passengers. Going into the restaurants, it was really noticeable.
It was right across the street from the souvenir shops, if that is important to you. Although, the hotel gift shop was quite nice.

Room Tip: Try to stay in the new buildings (10 &11?)

“It was O.K but not great”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 November 2011

I decided to book at the Denali Princess Lodge because I really enjoyed my stay at the Copper River Princess Lodge, and I figured since it's a chain hotel that there wasn't going to be much of a difference in quality. Well, turns out I was wrong!
I don't know if the overall disappintment I felt was brought on due to the huge shock and disgust I felt when I drove into the gift shop/resort town that developed outside the park. The lodge definitley fits with all the other fancy hotels and resorts that litter an otherwise beautiful area.
The lodge is fairly big, and on the property itself there are several restaurants, and gift shops which I found to be a little weird, it felt like a mini village.
I am not sure if there are rooms in the main lodge, but I stayed in a building right outside the main lodge. I found the setup to be odd, since they have buildings with guest rooms scatterd throughout the property.
NO WI-FI in the room I was in, had to go to the main lodge area which is not attached.
On the upside, the main lodge area is very comfortable, lots of seating, coffee shop, etc etc had really good pizza at the Lynx Creek Pizza & Pub (one of the lodge restaurants).
Next time I head to the Denali area I will try to look for a smaller place, in one of the surrounding areas.

Room Tip: If you MUST have Wi-Fi in your room you should ask upon booking, not all rooms have Wi-Fi
