Before I begin, I must offer this: The desk staff was very professional in every way. No complaints there. Also, our room was clean.
Here are the negatives, which you might overlook if you hadn't paid such a HIGH price:
1) Room was extremely small. Sliding bathroom door located right next to the bed. Really? Why have a door at all? Sink in living area, away from bathroom.
2) Noisy, Noisy, Noisy. We were in the individual cabins, but even with the windows closed, you hear every guest who walks past. LOUDLY.
3) We paid resort hotel lodging rates for a step just above tent camping. Examples: Cheap folding chairs covered with industrial nylon slipcovers. Really? Shower curtain didn't reach bottom of plastic shower?? In short, this was no bigger nor better than a large tent!
4) Door wouldn't shut tightly.
5) Continental breakfast. Just skip it. Hard boiled eggs are no problem if you've paid for super discount lodging - which this is not. Skipped 2nd day and went to Princess Lodge for WONDERFUL breakfast, pleasant service in gorgeous surroundings.
6) Restaurant (Roadhouse). Yuck. Ordered the Cuban Pork Sandwich. Bland and COLD!!! Caesar Salad had so much parmisian we couldn't even eat it. Expensive and horrible. Ate at Prospector Pizza next night. FANTASTIC! Don't waste your money or time here.
7) WARNING: Gas heater has an open flame. Don't bring kids.
In all, this was the worst lodging experience of our two weeks in Alaska. And just so you know, my complaints aren't about cabins. We spent a night in a cabin at the Red Eagle Lodge in Chistochina - which we LOVED!! But the prices at the Denali River Cabins don't match up with the room or amenities. In our two weeks in Alaska, this was our worst lodging experience -by far.
