I was a little concerned about our stay after reading mixed reviews. I agree that the word "grande" does not describe the lodge itself, but rather the view from the lodge. We found the lodge to be a good value, by Alaskan standards, and found a coupon in the ATS book that saved us 30% - well worth the cost of the book.

The lodge is relatively new and has a nice lobby area. We did not eat at the lodge, but the food selection was good. Typically we like to find the little known restaurants rather than hotel fare. The room was clean and what you would expect from the typical quad room. Overall, a very nice stay.

You will need a vehicle if you want to explore or venture out for restaurants or going to Denali. The trip up the mountain to the lodge is an adventure in itself. Most of the restaurants and lodging are along the parks road and we enjoyed having a location out of the way (or should I say "above the way")

We visited the Princess lodge and found it to be very beautiful, but crowded with people. We really preferred our mountain top lodge.

Stayed here as part of an Alaska ground tour with Globus. Considering you are in the middle of nowhere, I wasn't expecting luxurious accommodations. The hotel was worth staying at in my view and i would stay here again. Yes, the rooms are standard, but they are nice enough, they aren't dirty or run down. The beds were comfortable, and it was a nice place to stay. The room had a view, except for the building in front of it which restricted it a little, but at least there was a view, most of the time in hotels you face brick walls!

The staff were nice, the views from the hotel lobby and restaurant are to die for. Breakfast was great, a lot to choose from. Wifi was only available in the lobby, but considering the view I was glad to sit out there for a few hours and take it all in while I surfed the net. Overall, it was a great stay, i enjoyed it and would definitely stay here again!

Grande it is not by my standards but it is a decent hotel. The "Lodge" is nice and has great views from it's perch high up on the hillside. My disappointment is that the architect did a very poor job of taking advantage of a superb location. What should be great views from some rooms are blocked by a poorly placed building. A nice place I would recommend but don't expect Grande.

I was very disappointed in the accomodations here. First of all, the water was NEVER hot.
One evening, I actually took a shower with only warm water... the rooms are standard. Nothing special. the lodge main office/reception area is very open. The bartender at the lodge's only bar was not very friendly. However, the view outside is pretty spectacular. The coffee shop did not have any bottled water on the morning of one of my excursions. The $16 for the buffet seemed a little steep for the small variety of food. The entire place just did not seem to have its act together. Don't think you are going to go someplace else easily.....there is a very steep climb down the mountain to the small town below...you really have to take the shuttle to go anywhere off the property.
