“Beware of construction work”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 July 2005

We arrived for a two night stay to find the edge of the site a huge construction site complete with huge earth diggers, monstrous lorries and trees being ripped out by their roots. This resulted in noise, fumes and terrible mud opposite our cabin and on entering or leaving the site with work commencing at 6.30 am and finishing at 5.30pm No peaceful, restful, away from it all cabin for us, I am afraid. When we complained we were told we could not stand in the way of progress! If booking check whether work completed. Certainly not a place we would drive 240 miles from Anchorage to visit. On the positive side, it was convenient for the park and staff were courteous, but the cabin was also very basic. Not a good experience - the only disappointment in our three week trip.

“Peaceful and secluded”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 June 2005

These cabins are centrally located but are down a steep dirt road from the main hotels. Usually if you call ahead the people at reception will come down in their van and collect you and your luggage and drive you up the hill, but it's only a 2-3 minute walk anyway. The cabins are basic but comfortable, showers are hot with good water pressure, beds are comfy, cabins are clean. No amenities eg kettle, phones, fridge or microwave but there is a central amenities block in the middle of the site with payphone, ice, vending machines and free phone connection to reception for pickups etc. It is great to get away from the main drag (highway) and long row of other hotels, shops, traffic and pedestrians. Reception is very friendly and helpful, no snooty attitude. Can request wake up calls and they will collect you at 4.30am if you book ahead. Very peaceful and secluded, cabins very well maintained, everything is close together and so you are still only 2 minutes by car and 10 minutes by foot from every other venue at Denali. Surrounded by forest and about 3 minutes walk along a trail takes you to a bend in the river - very scenic. Plenty of wildlife (squirrels & birds) to see. Would recommend staying here, if you want to use internet, there are plenty of cafes and pubs in town you can use. Pizza place at top of hill next to reception, beware: serves are very large, 1 large pizza will feed 3-4 hungry adults!

“Great for a budget! Great Service, too!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 August 2004

Tucked away in the "Canyon" - the small metropolis catering exclusively to the seasonal tourists to Denali National Park, offers reasonable accomodations of private cabins with excellent hospitality. The very clean cabins seem a little cramped for 4 people (2 full size beds) but you generally come to Denali to see the park, not the accommodations. Every employee at Sourdough Cabins, from Brandon at the front desk, to the shuttle drivers (free shuttles ANYWHERE in the Canyon - just pick up a phone and call until 11pm at night!), to the maids - all expressed positive initiative to our needs, friendliness and were extremely helpful during our stay.
If you are looking for accomodations that include privacy and hospitality, all on a reasonable budget, look no further than Denali Sourdough Cabins.

Sourdough cabins are very basic but the service is very friendly from the driver who picks you up at the train station to the check in and maids, no tvs or radios so you are back to basics great place to relax and read and view the beautiful fall scenery.
