“Unique and Beautiful”

Just spent 2 nights at Devil's Garden last week and loved it. Each site is so unique and has great views. I was only able to reserve for one night and the second night we wanted to stay but the campground was all booked. When we arrived we spoke to the ranger about staying an extra day and he managed to find a site for us and was very helpful (he even took our air mattress pump to his cabin to charge for us since there are no outlets in the bathrooms). The park is well maintained and the bathroom facilities are some of the cleanest I've seen. There are also a few nice hikes right from the campground (Broken Arch was one of our favorites).

“Not What We Expected”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 August 2011

We've stayed at campgrounds before, but this campground was not at all what we expected. While the landscape of Arches National Park is beautiful on hikes and drives, the hot and arid environment does not make a good place for camping, especially in August. The facilities themselves were good - very clean bathrooms, along with fire pits and picnic benches at each campsite. There were also drinking water spigots at the bathrooms, and while the water tasted strongly like chlorine, it was certainly better than nothing considering we were in the middle of a desert.

The weather was what made our experience a memorable one - although not for positive reasons. There is no shade anywhere in the campsite, mainly due to the complete lack of trees in the park. Thus, it was extremely hot and there was absolutely no was to escape the heat. Even at night when the sun finally went down, it never got below 80. The weather is also extremely unpredictable. We stayed for three days, and despite the complete lack of clouds in the sky for most of the day, each night thunderstorms rolled in. These thunderstorms are accompanied by very strong winds that blow away everything not tied down - and due to the extremely rocky soil, it is almost impossible to tie (or stake) anything down.

In conclusion, Arches National Park is a great place to visit and hike around, but definitely not a place you would want to camp.

“Amazing place to camp...”

Went on a cross-country trip this past spring and out of all the beautiful places we camped this had to be one of if not my favorite. We stayed in site #53 and loved it. Very private site, almost hidden, with great scenery. Had some deer run right through our site one night! You can get to some of the hikes (Broken Arch Trail, etc.) from the campground. Walked right from our site to the trails. Bathrooms are a little far away but are clean. Sunsets and stars at night are ridiculous! If your planning a trip to Arches would definitely recommend trying to get reservations here (may need to get months ahead of time). Can't wait to come back!

Unfortunately, one bad thing I will say that some of the camp hosts (well just one in particular) are not very nice. Went to several national parks and most if not all of the camp hosts and rangers were very nice and helpful. However, this guy must have had issues. Was trying to charge my camera in my car and had the car running. He drove up in his golf cart and very rudely told me to turn my car off with no explanation as to why and drove off. I went after him to say I felt there was no reason he needed to raise his voice at me as I am not doing anything wrong and just wanted to know what the reason was I could not have my car running. He said that is just the way it is and drove away again! He then had the audacity to leave me a note at my campsite that said he was going to have one of the rangers speak with me. Can you imagine getting back from a long day of hiking to find some little note like this?? Anyway I saw I ranger walking around and asked them myself about this whole car running business and she said there was no rule about this!! Wow. The only thing I can think of is I had some music playing in my car (quietly)when he ran up on me....guess he never heard Led Zeppelin before lol...

So five stars for the campground.....

One star for the camp hosts.....

“what a cool place”

Went here July 15th and 16th. We had site 51. It was all the way in the back of the campground. The site we had was pretty small, but we were able to get our 2 tents and canopy over the picnic table on the site. We had a large rock on out site that the kids had a blast playing on. This site is right next to the trailhead to the broken Arch trail. That was convenient. The restrooms were about 300 steps away from the site. The restroom was clean and never busy. There were showers in the campground. We encountered lots of people with RV rentals at this campground. All that we met were from Europe. They were exploring nature while in the US--what a cool way to see the western USA. My kiddos had a blast meeting all of the other children with different languages and ideas.
We were all looking forward to being in the open space and able to see lots of stars. during both days of our stay, we had the fullest brightest moon we had ever seen. So, we were unable to see the stars we had been hoping to see. The moon was very pretty though.
The temps. were hot 95-100 each day (low 60's high 50's at night). Because we are from Houston we were very nervous about these temps. Due to the altitude and desert area we were in, there was no humidity. So, a dry 100 degrees is completely different 80-90% humidity 98 degrees in Houston. I had never felt thirst like I did while I was there as well. I guess because it was so dry! We drank so much water!!
We did do the Devils Garden hike, and going all the way to double O arch is very difficult. Bring double the amount of water you think you are going to use. We ran out on the hike.

Lastly--it is 16 miles to the campground from the entrance of the Park. There are no shortcuts. So, if you need groceries, get them before you enter the park (City Market is a good store or Walkers drug store had a lot of things as well).

Room Tip: All the site are pretty small and have very little shade. Site 51 did have a tree that provided sha...

“What a View”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 September 2010

This was my favourite campsite during our 2 week vacation. I could have looked out over Arches National Park all day. Washroom was a bit nicer than the usual National Park washroom. The sites were spacious, The water was a bit further away, but you're in the desert, it's to be expected. If you are visiting Arches this is where you want to stay.
