Having seen The Residence on a previous trip to Northern Cyprus we decided that Bellapaix village would make a great base for a second trip. Previous reviews mentioned the size of rooms at The Residence but we were lucky enough to occupy the Colonial Suite which is the largest room in the building and fronts the main street and also looks out over the pool at the rear. We found it comfortable and spacious with a large bathroom. The staff at The Residence are polite and very eager to please and although language is sometimes a small barrier, mistakes were quickly rectified and easily forgiven. Breakfast was good with a choice of Continental (Turkish style), English, Omelettes and occasionally fresh fruit, all served with fruit juice, bread and a smile. Dinner served in the hotel on the two occasions we ate there was very good and I can recommend the Bellapaix Gardens (booking essential) and Bella Moon in Bellapaix. Niazis, opposite the Dome Hotel in Girne, is also a great experience and, if you select their Kebab Menu, you will need a good appetite to keep up with the flow of mezze and titbits that just seem to keep coming.

This hotel has recently, ( A WEEK AGO), been re-opened. The service is zero, provided by a young lad who speaks no English. Breakfast is poor with no cereal or fruit juice offered.Only one plate and one knife and fork provided and that has to do for everything. Room service is poor - only 3 days out of seven. Breakfast on your day of departure may happen if the chef gets up before 8.45 am.!. Part-time manager only. Definitely does not live up to its reputation.

Found the hotel through the internet. We prefer small properties and this was just to our taste. Positives: fantastic position right in the centre of Bellapais village, which really does feel like the Cyprus I used to visit as a kid many years ago. Great service. Beautiful decor. Lovely, peaceful atmosphere. Negatives: no public transport, so taxis or car hire a must. Rooms quite small, especially bathrooms. Pool small, but tidy and very attractive. Overall a really good experience. If you want the kind of masive, all-inclusive resorts, you won't like this, but if you want a small, efficient and attractive place that's a bit out of the ordinary, this is perfect. Oh, and a 'no children' policy, so nice and quiet!

We have been visiting Northern Cyprus for years and came across the Residence at Bellapaix (the formal name!) almost by accident. The hotel is very small (only 10 rooms) and in the centre of bellapais village. Negatives? Rooms are quite small and the hotel is in the middle of the village, so can be slightly noisy in the evenings, especially at weekends, though we never found this a problem. Positives? Service was excellent - personal and friendly, but never intrusive. Cleaning and overall standards very good and the decor of the place is lovely. Perfect location to be close to things to visit, without being in the bustle of Kyrenia and with a very 'stylish' feel. As it's so small, most tour operators don't seem to offer it. We booked direct (I think it's www.theresidencecyprus.com but you might want to check) and will definitely be doing so again!
