“Friendly, relaxing stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 October 2010

We greatly enjoyed our stay. We chose this inn because it is modern and for its proximity to Charlottesville. It was even more beautiful in person when we arrived. Our room was surprisingly spacious with a large bathroom. We were also pleasantly surprised to find that robes and sandals were provided to us at no charge, along with a fully stocked mini refrigerator in our room. After a long hot day of walking around Monticello, we were so happy to be able to come back to the inn and go for a swim. Sitting in the hot tub at night and looking up at the starry sky was also wonderful and romantic. The inn is surrounded by some horse farms and is very quiet, aside from the occasional airplane flying overhead (which we couldn't hear inside our room).
I also can't say enough about the breakfast that is served, really fantastic food and you get to choose your meal which changes daily. The portions are very generous. The innkeepers are very friendly people and we enjoyed talking with them. There is no doubt that this inn made our anniversary so special.

“Want to go back!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 September 2010

Stayed here on our honeymoon for a full week and it was absolutly fantastic. My wife and I often talk about how amazing it was. Close enough to restaurants, wineries sightseeing, historical landmarks and shopping but off the beaten path enough to feel away from the hussle and bussle and really relax in the many areas around the house. Were treated like royalty by Charles and Judy. Will try our best to get back there again one day and enjoy it all over again.

“Perfect get-away”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 July 2010

This was our last vacation as a couple, before our first child comes along, and we wanted to treat ourselves with a special, first-class, romantic get-away. And Cedar Spring was the perfect place to go. Judy met us at the door when we arrived, greeted us, and showed us all around the house. There was nice jazzy music playing all throughout the place, setting a relaxed mood. There are snacks stashed in baskets in the t.v. room, where they keep videos & dvd's available for use. Judy also showed us the awesome outdoor pool & little sauna/steam-room and outlined her [very sensible] rules of use. A bottle of red & one of white wine are set out every afternoon, in the common areas of the house, to help yourself. Up in our room, there was also a mini-fridge that was always stocked with complimentary sodas & water.

We stayed four days, in the Captain's Watch room. Our room was immaculate, with white carpet and crisp white sheets. We had a little t.v. and a fireplace. The a.c. kept us nice and cool, despite outdoor temps over 100 degrees (Virginia is HOT in the summertime!). The towels were changed every single day, and little treats were left along with the next-day's weather forecast on our pillows each night with turn-down. Every service was quietly, unobtrusively carried out in the most high-touch way.

Breakfasts were splendid. Served between 8 and 10am, out on the porch, with flowers in full bloom, the outdoor cat lounging at our feet, and scenic views of the Blue Ridge mountains. Judy cooked and Charles served us the dishes we chose, from their extensive menus (no kidding) printed out with new selections each day. There were absolutely elegant dishes like: "fresh sliced peaches with honey cream" and "artichoke and salsa fritata" and "double corn pancakes with blueberries." I'm 6-months pregnant and really appreciated that Judy took the time to make a little pot of decaf coffee each day for me.

We swam in the pool every night, which was fantastic under the starry sky. Judy and Charles have really created a wonderful retreat, and we won't forget our lovely stay there. I've already sent my parents & 2 friends their brochure, and urged them to make a reservation!

“Incredible, immaculate, intimate inn.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 July 2010

When my husband and I drove down the driveway to Cedar Spring Inn & Spa, we knew we were in for something special. The setting is very serene and the home is absolutely stunning. We were personally greeted by Charles and Judy McBee. Too many innkeepers fail to see the importance of this gesture, however, it makes the guests immediately feel welcome. Judy showed us our gorgeous room, "Orient Expressed," and gave us a tour of the rest of the home. She is a wonderful, kind, and genuine person and we felt so comfortable around her. Our room was gorgeous and decorated like something out of "Architectural Digest" as is the rest of the home.

One of the nicest features of the inn is the outdoor swimming pool. It was extremely hot during our stay and we basically wanted to be submerged most of the time. It felt so refreshing to take a dip in the pool after visiting the wineries or shopping. There are lots of things to do in the area, but we enjoyed the property at the inn. There are trails through the meadows and woods that lead to a cabin and beyond. After Judy's luscious and bountiful breakfasts, it felt good to take a leisurely stroll through the woods with Pepper, the outdoor cat, tagging along.

It was a nice feature to have a small refrigerator in our room filled with cold water and drinks. When we went out, our towels were always changed, the bed made up, and turndown service provided in the evening with a special treat on the night table. Judy leaves no stone unturned when it comes to providing superb customer service. She is knowledgeable about the area and can recommend places to eat or visit. It was like having our own private concierge service.

In the morning, the aroma of coffee and homemade sweet breads wafted throughout the house. We met Gail our last morning there. She helped with the breakfast and was very friendly and sweet. We were able to have breakfast on the outdoor porch every morning. The fresh flowers on the table and soft music playing added to the ambience. Everything about this place is first-class. Judy is an outstanding cook and her breakfasts prove that. There are several hot entree selections, in addition to juices, hot beverages, fresh fruits, cereal, etc. We have never had such a bountiful breakfast at any establishment we have stayed. It was so relaxing to look out at the bucolic scenery surrounding the home while enjoying a delicious meal. Charles was busy helping serve but would take the time to chat with us which was very nice.

We would definitely recommend Cedar Spring Inn & Spa to anyone who appreciates the finer things in life. It appeals to the senses in so many ways and you will leave feeling rested, relaxed, and refreshed.

“Bugs and rude service”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 June 2010

My husband and I booked 2 nights here for a weekend getaway. We got in late on a Friday night, exhausted from driving after work. When we got ready to pass out, we realized there were bugs all over the bed, ceiling, and walls. In the morning, we told the owner as soon as we got up and she was defensive and rude. Instead of taking responsibility for the cleanliness of the property (she was the last one in the room before we arrived) she blamed us! We never opened any windows or doors, other to walk in the room and lock the door. She refused to give us any sort of discount on the already overpriced room and continued to blame us when we paid our bill the following day. There are plenty of other beautiful hotels and B&Bs in Charlottesville that will respect your concerns and appreciate your patronage.
