This is the most challenging review I have ever written because I cannot possibly add to all the enthusiastic and fabulous words that have been posted about The Cedar Spring Inn and Spa. After staying in literally hundreds of bed and breakfast inns in the U.S., Canada, the U.K, Ireland and Europe, I can honestly say that Cedar Spring Inn and Spa is THE BEST bed and breakfast I have ever experienced. And with saying that, it makes me sad because until I return there, I will always be comparing other places with the perfection of Cedar Spring.
And a little editorial note here, I really believe Cedar Spring Inn & Spa should be listed under Charlottesville, VA, as well as Advance Mills. It is slightly north of Charlottesville, but easily accessible. We were in the mood to just get away from everything for the week and this was perfect for us. It is within easy proximity of the Monticello Wine Trail (which I recommend) and the historic properties are not far. We also drove up to Culpepper one day and loved this little town of special shops and fantastic food (see my review of Foti and Miss Minerva's Tea Room).
It is also a challenge because I do not want people to over-expect. But, honestly, I knew the moment we parked the car at Cedar Spring Inn and Spa, I was going to love being there. The owners are friendly, knowledgeable and simply knock themselves out to provide a level of service and quality of cuisine that is outstanding. The entire property is immaculate and the finishes on this property are truly beautiful. The quality of the towels, the linens and the personal items were all top of the line.
This is the only bed and breakfast I have ever stayed in that gives you a choice of three or four entrees for breakfast and a choice of meat or smoked salmon. And that does not count the fruit course, the juices, the coffee/tea or that special little loaf of breakfast bread for each couple to share (and take back to your room if you so desire).
One of my pet peeves is that many times bed and breakfast inns can be pretty regimental about being in your breakfast seat at 8:30, etc., which destroys the entire relaxation of a vacation. It is in these little details that Cedar Spring Inn excels. The breakfast window is between 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. (coffee and hot chocolate are available 24/7 in the lower level entertainment room).
The owners are friendly, but not intrusive. They have a great sense of humor. What really amazed me was how private it was. You could feel almost like it was just the two of you even when the inn was full.
The photos do not do the rooms justice. And to call these “rooms” is a misnomer. The details that have gone into each of the five accommodations are quite amazing. One important piece of information is that the Charleston Garden room has a shower, but it goes into the tub, so if that is a concern for you, you might want to choose another room. (I am quite clumsy and would definitely find that to be an issue).
Men, TAKE NOTE!! If you want to really impress your wife or someone you want to be your wife, write down Cedar Spring Inn and Spa right this minute! The views, the pool (a perfect 84 degrees all the time), the hot tub, the steam bath, the sauna – the owners will even arrange a massage therapist to come to the Inn. Many who came for one night were very disappointed they had not booked for two or three nights or all week. The peace, the harmony, the beauty and the views all come together in one perfect package. Thank you, Judy and Charles, you took two stressed out, strung out people and provided the perfect atmosphere for fun, rest and relaxation.
