“A Symphony of Serenity and Relaxation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 September 2011

This is the most challenging review I have ever written because I cannot possibly add to all the enthusiastic and fabulous words that have been posted about The Cedar Spring Inn and Spa. After staying in literally hundreds of bed and breakfast inns in the U.S., Canada, the U.K, Ireland and Europe, I can honestly say that Cedar Spring Inn and Spa is THE BEST bed and breakfast I have ever experienced. And with saying that, it makes me sad because until I return there, I will always be comparing other places with the perfection of Cedar Spring.

And a little editorial note here, I really believe Cedar Spring Inn & Spa should be listed under Charlottesville, VA, as well as Advance Mills. It is slightly north of Charlottesville, but easily accessible. We were in the mood to just get away from everything for the week and this was perfect for us. It is within easy proximity of the Monticello Wine Trail (which I recommend) and the historic properties are not far. We also drove up to Culpepper one day and loved this little town of special shops and fantastic food (see my review of Foti and Miss Minerva's Tea Room).

It is also a challenge because I do not want people to over-expect. But, honestly, I knew the moment we parked the car at Cedar Spring Inn and Spa, I was going to love being there. The owners are friendly, knowledgeable and simply knock themselves out to provide a level of service and quality of cuisine that is outstanding. The entire property is immaculate and the finishes on this property are truly beautiful. The quality of the towels, the linens and the personal items were all top of the line.

This is the only bed and breakfast I have ever stayed in that gives you a choice of three or four entrees for breakfast and a choice of meat or smoked salmon. And that does not count the fruit course, the juices, the coffee/tea or that special little loaf of breakfast bread for each couple to share (and take back to your room if you so desire).

One of my pet peeves is that many times bed and breakfast inns can be pretty regimental about being in your breakfast seat at 8:30, etc., which destroys the entire relaxation of a vacation. It is in these little details that Cedar Spring Inn excels. The breakfast window is between 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. (coffee and hot chocolate are available 24/7 in the lower level entertainment room).

The owners are friendly, but not intrusive. They have a great sense of humor. What really amazed me was how private it was. You could feel almost like it was just the two of you even when the inn was full.

The photos do not do the rooms justice. And to call these “rooms” is a misnomer. The details that have gone into each of the five accommodations are quite amazing. One important piece of information is that the Charleston Garden room has a shower, but it goes into the tub, so if that is a concern for you, you might want to choose another room. (I am quite clumsy and would definitely find that to be an issue).

Men, TAKE NOTE!! If you want to really impress your wife or someone you want to be your wife, write down Cedar Spring Inn and Spa right this minute! The views, the pool (a perfect 84 degrees all the time), the hot tub, the steam bath, the sauna – the owners will even arrange a massage therapist to come to the Inn. Many who came for one night were very disappointed they had not booked for two or three nights or all week. The peace, the harmony, the beauty and the views all come together in one perfect package. Thank you, Judy and Charles, you took two stressed out, strung out people and provided the perfect atmosphere for fun, rest and relaxation.

Room Tip: Every room is beautiful.

“Our third visit, with many more to come”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 September 2011

My wife and I have travelled and visited numerous B&Bs in Virginia. At some, we got what we expected and leave content. At others, we were hesitant to move around very much for fear of releasing a whirling dervish of dust. There was even one where we were creepily serenaded by one inn keeper during breakfast singing off key love songs to his wife, who was annoyed as this caterwauling interrupted her ten minute speech about breakfast as she cuddled with one of her in-home chickens. To say that Cedar Spring Inn is in a class alone is an understatement. The B&B was designed to be just that. The rooms are modern, clean, and you don't feel as though you're living above, under, or next to other couples. There's a steam room, a massage room, a heated pool, a hot tub under the stars, an expansive deck, indoor and outdoor fireplaces, a common room to chat, and another to watch a movie on rainy or cold days.

The breakfasts are four star, and the hospitality the equivalent of what royalty might come to expect. The innkeepers, Judy and Charlie, are the friendliest type, and they have found the delicate balance between diligence and great conversation as well as respecting one's privacy and enjoying their large estate. At the nightly turndown service, you get chocolates and even a card that tells you the next day's weather. Anything from dinner reservations to balloon rides can be easily arranged by them, and both are experts on wine. There's a wine social happy hour also, if one is so inclined. Breakfasts include a three or four choice menu for savory or sweet, meat or vegetarian, and you could stay a week without getting a re-run of food. Each room is stocked with a fridge which includes various regular and diet beverages, Fiji bottled water, and snacks are available if one remains hungry (which doesn't happen). They pay attention to detail. This is, by far, the best B&B we have ever visited. We have been three times now (twice for new years and now once during the summer), and this is OUR place, and I hope you make it yours also. It's worth every penny, if only for one night, and up to seven or even more days.

Room Tip: Choose a room depending on what you want. All of them appear wonderful.

“Beyond Expectations”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 August 2011

My experience at CedarSprings was less "inn-like" and more "Four Seasons-like". The keepers have through of every small detail to make the experience rich and luxurious. The rooms are superb, the privacy excellent, the food was amazing, their service was discrete and friendly, the property itself is in excellent condition and offers several excellent outdoor activities, and above all the views of the VA countryside and distant Blue Ridge mountains are breathtaking. The little "extras" provided make all the difference in the world and one's experience has been very well thought out. In all, I think its one of the best values I have experienced and I would unreservedly return and recommend it to friends. This is a very, very private inn -- perfect for that get away weekend.

“Perfection”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 July 2011

What an amazing property. Judy & Charles have created a magical spot in the mountains that delivers five star service and amenities. The rooms are private, spacious and well appointed with truly gourmet breakfasts (as a chef I was impressed). If you're in the Charlottesville area no need to look any further for accomodations.

“The Buzz is all good!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 July 2011

I can only confirm what many other reviewers have said--this place is very, very, nice. Clean, secluded and private, but the house is open in the common areas and decorated beautifully. Charles and Judy are very nice, and, although they make it look easy, I know that they both work very hard to serve their guests and maintain a level of quality while keeping a relaxed ambiance throughout the property.

We enjoyed the pool since it was quite hot during our stay. We sat outside on the deck that wraps around two sides of the house that provides great views of the mountains, trees, and rolling hills of this part of Virginia. The food was plentiful, and like everything else, the little extras are all there--real cream available for coffee; each couple gets their own fresh-baked loaf of bread, different on both days of our stay.

The buzz is good, Judy! Thanks for making our stay so pleasant--we'll be back!
