“Our third visit, with many more to come”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 September 2011

My wife and I have travelled and visited numerous B&Bs in Virginia. At some, we got what we expected and leave content. At others, we were hesitant to move around very much for fear of releasing a whirling dervish of dust. There was even one where we were creepily serenaded by one inn keeper during breakfast singing off key love songs to his wife, who was annoyed as this caterwauling interrupted her ten minute speech about breakfast as she cuddled with one of her in-home chickens. To say that Cedar Spring Inn is in a class alone is an understatement. The B&B was designed to be just that. The rooms are modern, clean, and you don't feel as though you're living above, under, or next to other couples. There's a steam room, a massage room, a heated pool, a hot tub under the stars, an expansive deck, indoor and outdoor fireplaces, a common room to chat, and another to watch a movie on rainy or cold days.

The breakfasts are four star, and the hospitality the equivalent of what royalty might come to expect. The innkeepers, Judy and Charlie, are the friendliest type, and they have found the delicate balance between diligence and great conversation as well as respecting one's privacy and enjoying their large estate. At the nightly turndown service, you get chocolates and even a card that tells you the next day's weather. Anything from dinner reservations to balloon rides can be easily arranged by them, and both are experts on wine. There's a wine social happy hour also, if one is so inclined. Breakfasts include a three or four choice menu for savory or sweet, meat or vegetarian, and you could stay a week without getting a re-run of food. Each room is stocked with a fridge which includes various regular and diet beverages, Fiji bottled water, and snacks are available if one remains hungry (which doesn't happen). They pay attention to detail. This is, by far, the best B&B we have ever visited. We have been three times now (twice for new years and now once during the summer), and this is OUR place, and I hope you make it yours also. It's worth every penny, if only for one night, and up to seven or even more days.

Room Tip: Choose a room depending on what you want. All of them appear wonderful.

“Beyond Expectations”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 August 2011

My experience at CedarSprings was less "inn-like" and more "Four Seasons-like". The keepers have through of every small detail to make the experience rich and luxurious. The rooms are superb, the privacy excellent, the food was amazing, their service was discrete and friendly, the property itself is in excellent condition and offers several excellent outdoor activities, and above all the views of the VA countryside and distant Blue Ridge mountains are breathtaking. The little "extras" provided make all the difference in the world and one's experience has been very well thought out. In all, I think its one of the best values I have experienced and I would unreservedly return and recommend it to friends. This is a very, very private inn -- perfect for that get away weekend.

“Perfection”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 July 2011

What an amazing property. Judy & Charles have created a magical spot in the mountains that delivers five star service and amenities. The rooms are private, spacious and well appointed with truly gourmet breakfasts (as a chef I was impressed). If you're in the Charlottesville area no need to look any further for accomodations.

“The Buzz is all good!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 July 2011

I can only confirm what many other reviewers have said--this place is very, very, nice. Clean, secluded and private, but the house is open in the common areas and decorated beautifully. Charles and Judy are very nice, and, although they make it look easy, I know that they both work very hard to serve their guests and maintain a level of quality while keeping a relaxed ambiance throughout the property.

We enjoyed the pool since it was quite hot during our stay. We sat outside on the deck that wraps around two sides of the house that provides great views of the mountains, trees, and rolling hills of this part of Virginia. The food was plentiful, and like everything else, the little extras are all there--real cream available for coffee; each couple gets their own fresh-baked loaf of bread, different on both days of our stay.

The buzz is good, Judy! Thanks for making our stay so pleasant--we'll be back!

“A very special B&B with lots of nice details”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 July 2011

One of the nicest B&Bs we’ve stayed at, it’s definitely above the bar for the sweet owners, attentive staff, beautiful house decor, furnishings, and original architecture. To top it off are the breath-taking views from the Inn and around the property. Simply stunning!
We stayed in the Orient Expressed, the original master bedroom of the house. It’s a large, airy, well-lit room with a window-wall and sliding door that opens onto a huge open porch with wrought-iron chairs and small table, plus a two-person hammock that overlooks the heated pool and an endless lawn that trailis down a long winding valley into the distant trees. The other rooms all appeared to have similar views and looked very nice from what we saw.
Amenities on the property include the pool, spa, sauna, and steam-room; hiking trails to a small creek and even a decent river; plenty of places to curl-up with a book, watch a movie on the big-screen, or even play some croquet. Although others have noted the Inn’s distance from Charlottesville, we found it to be only a 15 minute ride into town for dinner. Lots of choices for dinner nearby, everything from fast-food heaven to big-city white table-cloth with prices to match, but we found you don’t have to spend big to get a great meal. Judy and Charles know all the best places and made some great recommendations.
Still on the subject of food we found it superb at the inn. Multi-course breakfasts with fruit and to die-for freshly baked breads, banana one day, strawberry the next. I used to run a gourmet bakery and the banana was easily the equal of anything I’ve ever tasted! Judy even gave us the recipe.
The Inn is somewhat isolated but that’s part of the charm. You feel a million miles from anything, especially at night in the country where it get’s super dark and quiet - no view, but an almost Zen-like experience if you’re used to the city. A word of caution: be careful not to leave windows or doors open at night, even for a little bit, as you’ll end up with a room full of bugs. Not a big deal for us, but something that can’t be helped as there is no screen on the sliding door.
A couple of special things that for us helped put them at the top: the king bed was the most comfortable we’ve ever used, actually better than our own; same for the pillows; the bathroom towels were top-notch and fresh every day; the in-suite cooler stayed stocked with premium bottled water, juices, and various sodas; finally, our room, and the Inn in general, was impeccably clean!
Photographs do not do the Inn justice. Shots online show the interior fairly accurately but the exterior, especially the views down the valley and over a long thin ridge next to the inn can’t be captured in photo or video. Has to be seen to be believed.
Last but not least, Judy and Charles were the perfect hosts: doting but not obtrusive, polite, professional, but still easy-going and conversational , with a wealth of fascinating world-wide experiences and stories - we enjoyed everything at the Inn, but especially them!

Room Tip: Orient Expressed has a huge bathroom with his/her vanities, and 2-person multi-head shower!
