We booked a weekend break at a bargain price to get some rest & relaxation and were not disappointed. Even as we were carrying our bags from the car a gentleman stopped to welcome us and ask if we would like assistance, and from that point on it seemed that nothing was too much trouble.
Checking-in was simple and very friendly, and we learned some of the character of the old buildings getting to our room. (The only negative point we had was cobwebs in the room, so not a show-stopper!)
We enjoyed relaxing in the Spa a couple of times with the snow falling and blowing outside, although we were too late to be able to book any treatments which was a shame. Whoever built the Spa should have switched their brain on and created slopes to channel the water into drains rather than have it sit in deep puddles, though.
Dinner at Nathaniels on Friday and the Golf Club after the Rugby on Saturday were both excellent and not badly priced given where we were, and the breakfast (with decent decaf) was also to die for. Despite being crowded as all the guests seemed to want a last breakfast, the Maitre d' did a superb job of managing the guests with a smile on his face.
Being almost snowed-in could have put a dampner on the weekend but the great facilities and friendly staff meant just the opposite; we were positively forced to chill and enjoy ourselves, and by the time we checked-out the hotel roads and paths had been effectively cleared for a safe departure.
Would we recommend Mottram Park for a chill-out weekend? Yes we would, as long as you accept that tiddled wedding guests will be noisier getting back to their rooms than you would hope for - but we've all been there!

Dear Mighty Red
Thank you for the time you have taken in leaving a review on trip advisor following your recent stay with us at Mottram hall.
I am really very pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us, and were able to enjoy all of the facilities whilst with us. I have passed on your kind comments to Richard the chef and Harry the restaurant manager regarding your dining experience, they have asked to be associated with my thanks for your kind comments.
We do pride ourselves on the warmth of our welcome and the delivery of great hospitality, and I am really pleased that you felt we lived up to your expectations in this regard.
Credit to our greens team for clearing the roads ready for departure, I also spent much of the Saturday ensuring we kept the front of the hotel clear, a challenge bearing in mind the level of snow we experienced.
Please accept my apology for the cobweb in your room, Nicole the head housekeeper has been made aware of this and has asked me to convey her personal apology.
Thank you once again, and I do hope we have the opportunity to meet in the near future.
Best wishes
Iain
