“Very Disappointed”

We found Sunville House very disappointing on a recent trip to Ireland, especially in view of what one room cost us (about $232 per night, for one ensuite room for two people), and also in view of what their website and brochure offer. Sunville House is located in Pallasgreen, midway between Limerick and Tipperary. Our room was at best unremarkable and had no “period style” or charm. The furniture was dusty, the floor had not been swept, and handprints were visible all over the window panes. Dirty laundry had been left inside one of the bureau drawers. There was no hard soap in the bathroom, and no washcloths. Upon our return to our room the second day, we found our previous day’s dirty towels draped all over the bathroom, presumably for them to dry. For $232 a day, one would at least expect clean towels. The front of the Jacuzzi was not attached but only propped up on the floor against the tub. Even the trash can didn’t work.

There are no locks on bedroom doors.

There was dirty laundry and cleaning equipment piled at the bottom of one set of steps leading to the upstairs bedrooms. The downstairs room marked library was a private office and very messy. (It was not available to guests, so I would suggest marking it private.) The dining room did not appear to be used for regular guests. The terrace was used as a storage area and was piled with various items. The gardens were messy and not maintained. There were various items of children’s unkempt playground equipment strewn about the grounds. A play trampoline had trash and junk stashed beneath. An old trailor was parked in the backyard.

The website and brochure are misleading in terms of the restaurant. Both say that both a la carte and fixed menus are available. This is not true in that dinner is ONLY fixed price--at $50 a meal (and $40 for only two courses)! Upon our arrival we were offered only a choice of salmon, chicken, or beef for the evening meal, not the greater variety of choices as posted on their website. We passed, and went elsewhere for supper.

If you are planning to book this place for a group meeting, check in person first to see if this is what you want. Otherwise, stay away. For the price, you can do much better elsewhere. We felt ripped off.
