“Couldn't be better”

We spent a weekend in this hotel and were very, very reluctant to leave. We ended up arriving a day early because our accommodation for the first night of our trip had fallen through. They couldn't do enough for us despite the inconvenience we were causing them. The staff was very friendly and courteous without being overbearing, even offering us a complimentary upgrade. The views from the hotel and surrounding scenery is spectacular. We ate both nights in the bar and the food was exquisite. The set menu offer of 2 courses for 14 euro is brilliant value for money. I would happily pay a lot more for the quality of food. Similarly breakfast was also delicious and well set out. The lounge is a brilliant setting to spend an afternoon looking out at the scenery with a fire in the background. The swimming pool and spa facilities are also top notch. This was our second stay in the hotel and we will definitely be back. I really cannot recommend it highly enough.

“Everything as it should be!”

We could only stay for one night at the Ballyliffin Lodge but wished we had time to extend our stay and will certainly return for a longer visit. Evening meal was excellent and good selection at breakfast - both hot and cold. Staff are extremely welcoming and friendly. Bedroom was superior room with views over Pollan Bay from where some recent and stunning, pictures of the Northern Lights were taken (too cloudy during our stay for the 'light show'). Two of the superior rooms have huge balconies which would be great during the summer, looking out on the Atlantic (would provide brilliant platform for Northern Lights) . No time to use Spa or Leisure facilities but had a quick look and pool area seems very inviting. Our room was well furnished, well lit and heating, when needed, was immediate and very easily controlled (bearing in mind this was January). Beach is gravel variety & 10 minute stroll, you can walk along it for 1.5 miles to castle ruins, lots of 'surfers' with local surfing school whom thought were brave during January!

“Great Setting but hit and miss!”

Been here a few times and have to say whilst the location and views are magnificant they do not do enough with this place. The sitting room to the left of the reception area is a muddle of chairs and tables and does nothing to enhance the room or the fireplace. We arrived for a coffee at 2.00 pm on Christmas Eve and were told the bar did not open until 4.00 pm. Not good enough I'm afraid for a 4 star hotel. Went back a couple of days later for Dinner and there were only 2 other people in the bar/restaurant. The only people that appear to be using the place are the locals for the swimminbg pool. Obviously suffering from the current economy.Hopefully just a once off.

Thank you for your comments on our hotel,
We operate on reduced hours during the winter period and this is why on christmas eve we opened the bar from 4pm. We opened fully from the 26th of December for the holiday period and had a very busy festive season with functions each day throughout. I have noted your comments and passed them on to the rest of the team here at the Ballyliffin Lodge and do hope you will return again in the future.

“Great service and just what we were looking for!”

I stayed a Ballyliffin Lodge as part of a girls weekend away. The rooms were lovely (although not the largest) and beds comfy. The Spa was put to good use, I had a elixir message which I would highly recommend.

On the Friday evening we ate in bar where the food was of good quality and enjoyed some drink back in our rooms. On the Saturday evening we had dinner in the hotels restaurant which was really delicious and the service was top notch!

Breakfast each morning was a hot full Irish breakfast, the only complaint being that the wait on toast was very slow, especially when you have a plate of hot food in front of you.

“Go for it”

The Ballyliffin Lodge Hotel is a hidden gem in the dramatic county of Donegal. We have just had a wonderful weekend, relaxing in the Spa and eating fresh, well cooked food in the restaurant. We stayed at The Lodge about 3 years ago and always said we wanted to return to Donegal (which has superb beaches and golf) and so took advantage of a great weekend offer. A warm Irish welcome awaited us before settling down in our huge, bright, comfortable ensuite room. We took full advantage of the pool and luxuriated in the treatments in the Spa (bliss). A few drinks in the friendly bar before a beautifully cooked dinner (locally sourced produce) followed by a bracing walk on the beach the next morning. The location, standard and value for money are excellent and we would recommend this hotel to both couples and families and will definitely be returning again to re-charge our batteries. Go for it.
