The Long Bay Hotel is in a beautiful location on a peninsula on the east coast of Antigua. Most of it’s 25 rooms look out onto a lovely, quiet inlet called Bayside whilst on the other side of the peninsula is the gorgeous beach of Long Bay where the hotel has a bar and restaurant and also sun beds are provided for hotel guests. Unfortunately, the beach is also the location for a large Sandals resort and the destination for visitors from cruise ships though neither caused us any concern as Long Bay beach is quite large. As other reviewers have highlighted, the snorkelling is very good on the edge of the reef just off the beach.
Our room (39) with its lovely view was large and had everything you needed including a beach bag for taking what you needed to the beach ! The bathroom was quite small with just a shower which was in need of updating though somehow this was all part of the charm of Long Bay. Food both in the main restaurant and at the beach was good though some may find the menu limited. There is also a nice bar in the hotel which has a lovely terrace just outside overlooking Bayside where you could have a pre-dinner cocktail looking at view.
Service at the hotel was exceptionally good and very friendly. This started at the top with Chris the owner who was ably assisted by Dave and all the rest of the staff most of whom have worked at the hotel for years. Nothing was to much trouble.
To conclude, Long Bay is a small charming hotel in a beautiful location and is just how we imagine Caribbean hotels used to be. It’s not trying to be smart or upmarket (there are plenty of other hotels that try to offer this) but small and friendly with great service. Long may it prosper.
