“Very nice resort, great stay”

My wife and I stayed at KBR for 3 nights in February 2012. We were upgraded to a "bungalow" room located just steps from the pool/restaurant nearest the beach. Room was clean and very comfortable. Pool and pool bar were great, restaurant served excellent food. Ah, and NO KIDS!!!...that was great. They are at the resort next door having their own good time.

Head to Laem Sing Beach, just north of the resort for a really nice beach without all of the hotel traffic. Water is beautiful.

Scooter rental is 400 baht direct from the resort. I highly recommend that as a way to get around. Get out and see Kamala. Lots of good restaurants, shopping, and bars.

“Nice enough, but...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

I have just stayed at Kamala beach for 7 nights and had a great stay. The resort is huge, but somehow it does not feel this way. We wanted to relax and found that a hotell without children was perfect in that respect. The atmosphere here is relaxed. The grounds are well taken care of and the room very clean. The food at Prime Kitchen by the Sea is very nice and not expensive. We tried almost every Thai dish on the menue and they were all very nice!

But, we had requested a twin room and upon arrival it was confirmed that we would get just that. But when we entered the room it was a double bed. Not a major crises, but when you travel with a friend you like to have your own bed and not share. The guy that helped us with our luggage said someone would stop by from house keeping and seperate the two beds that made up the double bed. We could have done that our selves, but a big double madress was on top of the bed(s). We waited for a while, but nothing happened. We both called the front desk and went down to talk to them. And they were not very helpful. Nothing could be done. I asked why they confirmed that we got room with twin beds when indeed we did not. Their only response was that we had a suite (we booked a regular room) and should be happy about that. In the end we decieded to share the double bed. My impression is that the staff is helpfull up to a point, but when asked to help out they shut down.

Would I stay again? Maybe. I think one visit to Kamala Beach is enough for me. Nothing very wrong, it`s just that one visit is enough I think

Another thing: uopon arrival to Phuket International Airport DO NOT go for a taxi from the company based to the left just as you walk into the arrivals hall. I don`t remember the name of the company. But the guy that persuaded us to go for their offer wore a beige t-shirt. The driver also wore beige. The reason for my warning about them is that when we were on our way from the airport all of a sudden the diver turned of the road and parked in front of a house without explaining why. Feels kind of scary when a taxi does this. The driver went in to the house and we were left in the car and understood nothing. All of a sudden a girl opend the car door and wanted to know if we had booked a hotell room and booked taxi to go back to the airport. We had booked our stay. But she tried to talk us into taking the same taxi service back to airport after our stay was over. As if......When we said that we would think about it and could call, she said that they did not accept booking over the telephone. She then left the car and the driver came back and we arrived at the hotell safely. But it was a bit scary!!

This was my 6th time going to Thailand and have experienced this kind of thing a few times before and do not like it!!

“Good value, great location.”

This resort is huge, enormous even but it won't feel that way when you're there. We were upgraded to a beach side room upon arrival. The room is not very luxurious, it's an older resort revamped but the rooms were clean and comfortable with really comfy beds (not always achievable in Thai hotels). There resort has many pools that are all clean and many lounges around them. Beach and pool towels can be exchanged as often as you like during the day.

The beach is more a surf beach than say Patong but has a lovely chilled out vibe. Exceptionally good food is not abundant in Kamala but the food, cocktails etc at the hotel were very good and not expensive. This is a recurring theme in the hotel, you don't feel like they are out to rip you off. The massages in the hut on the hotel grounds are the same price as outside although we had varying quality there. A well equipped mini - mart is on site as well as doctor clinic. Many activities are included such as exercise classes. Sun lounges on the beach are not included though. Wifi was free in reception but not free in room although if we held our tongues the right way we could pick up the free wifi in our room and ours was further most from reception.

Staff were good. The only issue we had was that an hour and a half before our check out time they were at our door trying to get us out. We politely sent them away and then got a call from the front desk asking when we were leaving.

We are younger (31 and 23) and found this resort had a much (much) older clientele. It didn't bother us but if you prefer a younger crew and more happening vibe it may not suit you. At night there was free music in the restaurant lounge beside the pool and was a lovely place to relax at night. It's a very laid back and utterly relaxing place and we would certainly return.

“Large hotel, friendly staff, better for older guests”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2012

We stayed with friends and adult family over Christmas and New Year. The room are spacious, well furnished and very comfortable. This is large hotel with one half for families with children with the other half for adults only, the pools and restaurants are segregated in same manner, not having children in the adult section made the pools and resturants that bit more peaceful.
The staff are excellent, very friendly, cannot do enough for you. We went the the Christmas Eve and New Years Eve Dinners, a very wide variety of first class food and Thai entertainment.
The hotel is on the beach which is a little crowded but the hotel has many (8/9) very large pools so there are plenty of options.
We were surprised how few British were at the hotel, most guests were Scandanavian, Dutch, German, Australian as well as from other Far eastern countries. The majority of guests were middle aged or over 60, it is not a party hotel.
Many good low cost local restaurants on the beach or in Kamala. all within walking distance as well as dozens of market stalls etc which seemed to sell everything.
We went into Patong for dinner on a couple of evenings you can get an excellent meal for £5/7, it is 10/15 minutes away by taxi which costs about £5/6. The place is crazy, many many clubs restaurants bars etc, at 67 we are to old for the night life now but everybody was having a good time and it is great for the young..
We visted James Bond Island part of "Man with the Golden Gun" was filmed there, Phi Phi island and Krabi, enjoyed them all.

Room Tip: If you are not taking children, be sure to stay in adult section. Hotel is on eith 3 or 4 floor dep...

No complaints here. Our room was spacious and clean. And the resort itself was very large. My partner and I are 25 and felt quite out of place as all the guests seemed to be 60 years +. However staff seemed friendly. Next time we will stay in Patong, as there was not much around our resort.
