We stayed here three nights in December and thoroughly enjoyed it. The size of the studio is quite spacious with kitchenette, dining table, couch and big bed (best bed we have ever slept in, so comfy and what a view!) and a bathroom ensuite. No TV or cell phone reception but we knew this in advance and it was quite something for a change. They had a nice CD collection with some great music. The nights were quite fresh, actually a bit cold but there are heaters that made the studio warm and cozy.
Be sure to bring all the food you need for your stay as the nearest restaurant or supermarket is REALLY far away! There is the the Niagara Falls Café though, probably 15-20 minutes driving, you also have free WiFi Internet there with your meal. They also do breakfast.
Although we had seen pictures before the view from the studio blew our breath away. We were not so lucky with the weather but anyway it was lovely to walk along the beach and spot the wildlife. A sea lion was on the beach right in front of our studio one day, another one near the camping ground on the cliffs a short walk along the beach. At Curio Bay fossil forest we saw the penguins coming ashore two nights in a row and there were also some nesting under our verandah making cute penguin noises in the night (it was really loud thoughand woke us up but then again we were lucky enough to even see them!). We unfortunately saw no dolphins.
Curio/Purpoise Bay is a good spot to stay and explore the Catlins region with a rental car for a few days. If we are ever back in this region, we will be back for sure and I would recommend it to anybody in a heartbeat.
