We were delighted with our stay in the Lamb Inn. Our cottage room in the garden, "Jemima Puddleduck" was spacious, with a comfortable, huge queen size bed, roomy, modern bathroom with shower/bath, and a sitting area with sofa, arm chair, coffee table and desk. A flat screen TV and coffee pot were also included. The furniture was new, and the walls were freshly painted. The few pictures on the wall were modern and bland - my hope is that the owner will provide something more picturesque in the future, (perhaps a Cotswold landscape?). The picture window looked out over the garden, and the back terrace of the inn. Our room shared the garden cottage with another room, with separate exterior entrances. Both of which opened on to a terrace with a small pond and a work-shed/studio. Next to the pond was a very small house built of cotswold stone - perhaps 1 foot by 2 feet. I do not know the purpose, but it was very charming.
Great Rissington is a tiny town several miles off of the main roads; there are no trourist attractions, but the houses and the view are beautiful. Signage from the A40 to Great Rissington was easy to follow, and as we approached the Rissingtons, we found signs directing us to the Lamb Inn. Burton on Water and Stow on the Wold were an easy drive up the road, (15-20 minutes). Day trips to Sudely Castle, Snowshill and trhe Roman Villa were enjoyabe and scenic.
Accessibility: My mother needed a room with easy access. We were able to get to and from the inn by walking down a short paved walk along the garden, with 5 or so shallow steps. Lighting at night made this an easy walk. A chair sat outside our room to accomodate outside smokers and enjoyment of the fall weather. We did need to walk down a set of 6 or 7 steps to get from the parking lot to the inn itself. The inn had a private parking lot that was sufficient for all the lodgers and diners.
Food and Pub: The Inn had a pub area that was fairly full each evening. Beyond the bar was a separate dining room where breakfast and dinner were served. In the evening, every table was occupied by lodgers and local diners. The food was very good with a stylish presentation. Fish, chicken, beef and vegetarian entrees were available. The chicken supreme was better than any I had in London. Service was prompt and friendly, and the staff was knowledgeable about the menu. Breakfast was included in our rates, and included cofee, tea, a variety of cereals, fruits, yogurt and pastries, or freshly cooked full English breakfast. This provided an excellent start to the day. Free WiFi was available at the bar, and at the tables outside the bar. I amused quite a few locals each evening when I settled down at one of thes tables with my headset to call home on Skype.
I highly recommend anyone looking for a quiet stay in the Cotswolds, away from the crowded towns, but convenient to them and to the historic attractions, to consider the Lamb Inn.
Room Tip: I did not see the other rooms in the Inn. Our cottage rooms in the Garden were wonderful.
