Though we booked to stay in the hotel we actually stayed at a house nearby (we are a family of 5). The house was amazing. A period property recently renovated to a really high standard. The kitchen and house was really well equipped. Old Rekem is lovely though (not sure i would recommend New Rekem). There is a small row of restaurants/bars nearby which I would recommend and pleasant walks by the canal (with windmills nearby). We stayed here as Maasricht hotels were expensive. We visited Maastricht but for a family visit I would not really recommend. The guy who runs Auberge Le Bon Vivant was great and this house amazing.
