We stayed for a couple of nights with our two daughters (13 and 10) this summer.
On the positive side the owners were very nice and involved in the operations. They were engaging and friendly. We found the staff similarly very nice. The food was excellent and we very much enjoyed both dinners that we had. In fact, the dinners may have been the best part! The grounds are very relaxing and enjoyable. The various birds (if it is corrects to call turkeys and partridges, birds) walking around and the cute dogs that tag along when you go for a walk were very unique and fun. If the weather is poor (we were not blessed with great weather notwithstanding it being summer) it can be a bit gloomy and dreary with limited things to do (in that the grounds are less enjoyable to walk when it is raining and you cannot sit outside and read a book). The pool is nice but in the summer one would prefer to be outdoors (it is a beautiful indoor pool).
The surrounding area is a bit limited. Vezeley (i may not be spelling it correctly) is a interesting day trip but otherwise the immediate area does not offer that much to do. The adjacent town is not worth much attention. While there are wineries near by it is not like Napa or Sonoma - you do not just drive down a road and drop in to tasting rooms. Getting to wineries and doing tastings appears to require some effort and potentially cost.
The rooms at the chateau are not really luxurious. I am not suggesting that they are not nice, but if you are very discriminating one may find them disappointing. They have attempted to build character into the rooms which i respect and appreciate. But one should not expect a Ritz/Four Seasons experience in the rooms. Some people may say this is a good thing, but if you are accustomed to this type of accommodation you may be a bit let down. This is not a criticism but simply commentary. I believe that my expectations were, in hindsight, unrealistic when it came to this part of the chateau.
Overall it was a nice experience and we have fond memories of our stay. Places like this are unique. If you are looking for a two or three day respite and simply want to get away from everything and relax, i can see this being a great spot to do it.
