this was our last place to stay during a 3 week trip round kerala and then up to south goa. we arrived from paradise - agonda which is only 5 km away to patnem expecting it to be similar but we were wrong. patnem is full of groups of gap year kids so from the start we wanted to be back in agonda. i had booked seaview resort on expedia and prepaid my stay. i paid £167 which is expensive for india. we were shown to our room which was in the annexe overlooking wasteland and countryside. the room was very comfortable and the shower was hot but our problems started when my husband accidently lost the pad lock key which was to lock our room. we went and told the owner who was rude and no help at all. he didnt give us another key or another pad lock - he just left us standing there and ignored us. so we went back to him and asked him if he was going to do something about it so we could get into our room. he was rude to us and said we would have to buy another pad lock. good start!! eventurally we were given a spare key ( what is the point in having a lock on ur door if there are copies of keys) and thought things would be ok but he was ignorant to us the whole stay there and so was his son. at nighttime it was hard to sleep due to dozens of stray dogs meeting on the wasteland next to our room and everynight at 11pm the dogs would howl and bark and that would go on all night. i like dogs but i was sick of them at patnem!! for the whole of our stay we hired a scooter and went visiting the other beaches around that area which was lovely.
getting back to the accommodation though - when it came to our final day i asked if we could keep the room on till 6pm as our train wasnt until 9pm and we needed somewhere to shower - he said we would have to pay 1100 rupees - which was fair enough but it was his attitude. i agreed reluctanly anyway. on the final evening the son followed me to our room and he said we owed him 500 rupees for the padlock. we explained that we only had be given a spare key but he wouldnt listen . he was rude and blunt!! i told him we shouldnt have to pay and that it was an accident losing the key but he made it clear by shouting at me that we needed to pay or go to the market and buy one. i had to ask him to go away and leave me alone and to speak to my husband - which he done rudely!!! on our departure we gave them 500 rupees for the key and walked away with them shouting at us !! i would never recommend this place and looking at previous reviews other people found the owners rude aswell. in this area of india there is no need to put up with behaviour like this as many of local people who own huts or bungalows are friendly and accommodating.
