I for one don't recognise the rave reviews that others have given this hotel.
We used the New Inn as a base for tackling the Yorkshire Three Peaks with a group of friends. Must admit I was expecting something decent for £100 a night - afraid to say that the New Inn didn't live up to the room rate being charged. It started to head downhill with the decidedly frosty welcome at check-in.
The bedrooms are in dire need of redecoration. At the rate being charged, I don't expect to find considerable amounts of mould growing around the edge of the bath, the toilet roll holder falling off the wall or a "sticky" bedroom carpet. I also don't expect a room that has an overpowering smell of cat urine at this price...nor do I expect to wake up to find the aforementioned cat sat on a chair in the room. One of our group woke up in the middle of the night, to find she had a cat in the room...it appears to have climbed in through a window in the night and made itself at home, announcing it's presence by purring very loudly.
The food in the restaurant is average, but unfortunately the service lets this part of the hotel down too. While I like a bread roll with my meal, I'm less keen when the "waiter" uses his hand to pluck it from the basket and plonks it on my plate. Silver service it certainly isn't. Disgusting it certainly is. The fact that a senior member of staff was stood behind the "waiter" when he did this, and did nothing to remedy the situation is even worse.
It's a real shame. With some TLC and a refurbishment this could be a real gem of a place especially given its location.
Would I go back - nope....will be trying elsewhere.
