“Luminous memories”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 September 2011

Comfortable, private, enchanting surroundings on a hillside surrounded by woods and vineyards. A perfect place to relax and from which to expolore the Cotes du Rhones vineyards. We never even went into Vaison La Romaine, much preferring the countryside. Madame Yolande Warland is a perfect hostess. Her recommendations on dinner - especially Auberge d'Anais - were excellent. She invited our family (including 14-year-old-daughter) to share a bottle of wine and conversation on the terrace with an international set of guests one evening. Communication via email prior to our arrival was very helpful; she made sure we had the room -- with separate sleeping alcove off the main bedroom, so that our daughter and we could have a bit of privacy while sleeping -- that would suit us best. Price very reasonable.

Whenever we can manage to get back to the south of France, we will make time to go back.

(We actually stayed there in July 2010, but October 2010 was the earliest the webform allowed me to select.)

Room Tip: Communicate with the hostess in advance about what sort of accommodation would best suit you.

“hidden among vineyards and olive groves”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 October 2010

An 18th century stone farmhouse has been cleverly converted into a comfortable small hotel with a pleasant pool in the back. The unspoiled front view over vineyards and olive groves with 6000 foot high Mt.Ventoux as a backdrop is spectacular. Charming Vaucluse hilltop villages are everywhere about. The town of Vaison-la-Romaine, crowded with tourists, souvenir shops, and overpriced boutiques, is only fifteen or twenty minutes away but is easily avoided. La Manescale serves only breakfast but there are two restaurants in nearby Entrechaux: St. Hubert and L’Ancienne Post. St. Hubert is first rate; L’Ancienne Post is of a lesser caliber. The restaurants in Vaison-la-Romaine are best avoided. It is advisable in any event to check beforehand to see whether the restaurant of your choice will be open, as their schedules are unpredictable.

“Great place to stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 July 2009

When your looking for a great place to stay near Vaison-la-Romaine, this is the place to be. It's not located near the town but the hostellerie makes it up. It is indeed a haven of peace in the countryside. And Yolande Warland is a great host!!! Although you are in France and you should try to speak french, see speaks English, German and Dutch.

“This is a wonderful place to stay for the Provence experience.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 October 2007

This small country hotel, lovingly cared for, is 2-3 miles outside the town of Entrechaux and that has a lot to do with its attractiveness. It's very well done and maintained; we stayed in the Marine Room, which was decorated in blue. The hotel looks and feels luxurious. Best of all, you are in the quiet country surrounded by vineyards, which gives you a true feel for Provence. Yolande is the epitome of a gracoius French lady. If you want privacy, this is the place. We enjoyed very much our dinner at Auberge d'Anais, one of Yolande's suggestions. She is staying open all winter this year, so that is good news for travelers.

“a secret gem of a place!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 May 2006

This little jewel of a hotel (4 double rooms and 1 two-room suite) is an incredible find! The location of “Les Essereaux” on the limits of Entrechaux, is as practical as it is lovely- tranquil and quiet but close to Vaison-la-Romaine and other wonderful nearby villages such as Malaucene, Crestet, Seguret, Sablet, le Barroux, and the wine routes passing through Gigondas, Vacqueyras, Cotes du Rhone, Cotes du Ventoux, Beaume de Venise (we adored Domaine la Pigeade here!), etc.
The setting of this hotel is absolutely charming. Upon arrival at La Manescale we were immediately reminded of a place we love to stay at in Ubud, Bali, which was quite a surprise to find in Provence in the south of France: terraced gardens, beautiful stone work and masonry, gorgeous vegetation all around, beautiful views (of olives trees and vineyards rather than rice fields) from both the room and the refreshing little swimming pool. And all of this for only 90-165 euros per night! The rooms are spacious, comfortable and well-appointed (my only regret as usual in France is that there are no window screens to keep the insects out and the air in.) The owners, Yolande and Marc Warland, are warmly hospitable, very knowledgeable and multilingual-their English is excellent. They provided us with a very informative brochure on local markets in the Vaucluse and Drome regions, and they recommended some fabulous restaurants nearby, too. We loved our delicious and affordable meal at L’Ancienne Poste in Entrechaux so much that we ate there twice on a four day weekend. Their reasonably-priced menus (prix fixe and a la carte) at 26 euros per person and up, were not at all expensive for the fresh, expertly prepared and beautifully presented three courses that we fully enjoyed. They also have a wine list offering plenty of wonderful local wines that represent a tremendous value. We cannot recommend La Manescale enough! (their telephone number is (country code 33)
(0)4- 90- 46- 03- 80 and their email address is (---)
