“Home away from home, animals make it complete”

My husband and I are big animal lovers. When we decided to book a trip to Scotland the first thing I did was try to find any place to stay that would have animals on the property. When I queried this online the only place that I could find was Trigony. We had no idea where the hotel was; even as we were trying to travel there that day to check in. You pull in through the long driveway and pull up to this quaint, home-like house. George the orange cat meets you and purrs. Already I liked this place! You walk into the hotel and find a little room to your right with a fire burning. We were greeted warmly by the owner who immediately took us up to our room. We were in a Superior Room which was huge, with a couch, and the bathroom had a bath and walk-in shower with a rain head shower. You meet for dinner in the first little room on the right with the fireplace. There we met Travis the dog and his owners and we chatted for a bit before dinner. Dinner was one of the best I have ever had! The appetizers all looked good, but we wanted to try the haggis, just to say we had. I could not believe how delicious it was! It had slices of pigeon on top and a gravy underneath. The main courses were delicious as were desert. Followed by a cider in the sitting room next to the fire I was ready for bed. The next morning we had breakfast in the same room. How beautiful and sunny! My husband had the full breakfast, which was big enough for two, and I had toast. I have likewise never had such delicious bread! I ate 8 slices!!!! The room we stayed in was immaculate, the food amazing, clean, friendly, the rooms were quaint, it was quiet, and on an amazing piece of property. Kit the daschund and Trixie the Golden Retriever were so much fun, too! There is nothing more like home then having an animal near you. Nothing. I am eagerly looking forward to Scotland and returning here. You can stay at any hotel. But no Marriott or Hilton has this experience!

“Relaxing Break at Trigony”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 January 2012

A fantastic couple of days spent at Trigony House relaxing after a hectic Christmas and New Year. Fantastic value for money, excellent accommodation plus great food and service from all the staff, would definitely return.

“A fairytale wedding and much more.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2012

My bride and our families stayed at Trigony House on the 16th and 17th December for our wedding. We were married at Crichton Church in Dumfries on the 17th and chose to have our reception at Trigony on the Saturday. Our wedding nearly didn't happen because we were originally booked into the nearby Whitecroft Mansion which closed its doors in November and left our dream day in tatters.

On the afternoon I found out about Whitecroft I had ran through a list of 10 -15 alternate venues, when it looked like all was lost I stumbled across Trigony House. I was fortunate enough to speak to Adam who dropped everything to understand our requirements and tailor a package to our needs in a matter of hours. I then visited Trigony the following week to talk to Adam and Jan face to face and left feeling positive but slightly apprehensive about how everything would go.

We drove from Staffordshire to Scotland in the snow on the 16th December and arrived to a picture perfect setting, snowy hills, beautiful countryside and roaring open fires. We received a warm welcome from Jan and her daughter along with complementary hot drinks, biscuits and a welcome card. From then on I can only describe the experience as being exceptional, the food, the service and the hotel itself were all outstanding.

Our party of 25 all ate at Trigony on the Friday evening and even though they also had to cater for another large group we couldn't find fault with anything. The food was served with a short wait and it was of a very good standard, I had the Chicken Curry and my bride to be had the duck, both were excellent.

On our wedding day the staff at the Trigony went out of their way to make it a day to remember. The staff were extremely attentive without being intrusive during the morning while the party were getting ready ensuring the bride and her family had everything they wanted, not once did we have to find someone to ask for assistance. They even offered the bride and her father a complementary drink to settle the nerves before they left for the church.

Upon our return from the church we were greeted by a mulled wine reception and canapes which we had requested but allowed the Chefs some creative license. Jan had arranged for someone to move our belongings over into the bridal suite while we were away and we found our belongings carefully put away with a complementary bottle of Bollinger and our first wedding card waiting for us in our room. The dining room had been decorated to perfection, I gave Jan some very loose direction with regards to how our decorations needed to be laid out, however she had interpreted what we wanted perfectly, with the candles lit and the fires going it looked fabulous.

The wedding breakfast again was absolutely faultless, Adam had suggested we have 4 options for each course which I was skeptical could be delivered successfully. After having photographs, socialising with guests and speeches we were an hour late sitting down. Full credit to the chefs because they delivered a fantastic menu, some elements of which were tailored again to our requirements such as a posh angus steak and ale pie. My only slight criticism was that the pie was a bit on the large side but that can easily be forgiven on the balance of everything else.

After the meal we had a blackjack and roulette table set up in the bar for the evenings entertainment, again this was done without anyone from our party having to get involved. Later in the evening we received a cheese platter for guests who were feeling slightly peckish before my wife and I turned in at midnight. Some of our guests stayed up and I must give credit to the staff at Trigony because they continued to provide great service well into the early hours of the morning.

The whole party commented on how great the breakfasts were, I can personally vouch for the haggis which was very, very nice! We were sad to leave on the Sunday and if it wasn't for the fact that we were booked into the 5 star Chester Residence in Edinburgh I would have been content to stay for a few days.

The way I have described Trigony to my friends and family was that the whole place had a home like feel to it, it was warm, welcoming and the customer experience was one of the best I have encountered. We stayed in 3 hotels including Trigony the week of our wedding, two were 5 star hotels that cost £400 per night, two provided a personal touch and leaving us wanting more, Trigony House was one of them.

I'm sure this place has bad days, don't we all, but all I can say is that when this place is on form you would stuggle to find a nicer hotel and you would go a long way to find more genuine and friendly staff. We will be returning to Trigony House, if not in the next 6 months then for our 12 month anniversary.

Thank you everyone at Trigony for saving our wedding and making it such a magical day.

xxx

“AN UNFORTUNEATELY DISAPOINTING STAY”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 January 2012

I do not want to appear harsh as its clear that you have many happy guests, however, our main issue is with the description of "luxury hotel" I found the hotel 'on line' after looking for a hotel under the heading of luxury & dog friendly, and came away for a little romantic night. We are very well travelled and I have to say the hotel is a beautiful building with a lovely frontage, but the rear of the building where the parking is was quite shocking it was scruffy with rubbish scattered everywhere (not a good first impression) my heart sunk.
I booked into the reception which was fine but the hall leading to the garden suite was bizarre (if you are going to have your kitchen on show it should be tidy and not have food scattered everywhere with overflowing bins and looked generally unhygenic (to the point we really didnt fancy dining) no mater how lovely the food. The rooms I consider should have wood floors when taking in dogs as the carpets looked old and worn and not clean, its clear you get many shooters and big dogs make a lot of mess and shed alot of hair, the sofa in the conservartory was covered in dirty paw prints and hair and the entrance door needed a damn good clean. It was particularly unpleasent being greeted by a rather enormous dog poo on the lawn by the conservatory entrance!!!!!!!!!!!!
The room was not luxury by any means and the bathroom needed updating but a very good shower, the bed was comfortable and nice linen but it just wasnt luxury just basic and not very clean (as above). The biscuits and tea on arrival we obviously missed out on, there was a rather sticky jar with 3 biscuits in that looked like they had been there a while, a nice touch would be the biscuits brought on a plate so you knew they had not been handled by previous guests. The dining room was lacking, nothing wrong with a relaxed feel at all but a complete lack of amibiance, a little music maybe, tablecloths as shown on your webpage and a warmer feel to the place, the food was tasty and enjoyable despite the kitchen issue, but I was brought a hard piece of bread couldnt even snap it in half i did tell the waitress (goodness knows where the slice came from not a good start to a meal) as per another review it could be more interesting on the veg issue, but it was very well cooked and tasty so cant complain and my main course of chicken was yummy. The lounge was cosy with the fire but the soft furnishings just a bit grubby, I just feel you are a little confused with the heading of luxury, as I say we have stayed in dog friendly hotels and one of the best we have stayed in, is a small hotel the Smiddy at Spean Bridge (try it one day) its not headed luxury but its beautifully kept and furnished with all the little touches (they even give sausages for the dogs in a bag) its a cut above yours and cheaper. I am sorry to write such a review, and I hope this is contructive critisim ,but we left in a hurry and didnt even want to stay for breakfast as so disapointed and felt very disgruntled with a wasted trip to the Trigony House Hotel having spent £240. I wish for oursakes we were writing a rave review!!

This review is both shocking to us and extremely worrying, Cleanliness is one of our biggest concerns throughout the hotel & grounds & it is also one of our most frequent compliments that "the hotel is spoless".
The rear of the hotel which is overlooked by woodland & mature trees is simply never scattered with rubbish, we take a great pride in the appearance of our beautiful building, and grounds & would never allow this to happen.
The kitchen door is usually left open to demonstrate that we keep a clean & tidy work place and it is always kept very clean & tidy. It has never been scattered with food or had overflowing bins, it is very odd that these comments have been written at all, and very difficult for us to understand.
As for the garden suite not being luxurious, the vast majority of our customers would strongly disagree, there are no muddy footprints on the sofa, nor is it covered with dog hair, so again these comments are very difficult for us to understand. In fact a couple who recently stayed for their honeymoon complimented us on both the cleanliness of the garden suite, the wonderful views & it's luxurious feel.
It is very difficult to answer these criticisms, when they are simply not recognisable experiences in our hotel, I could go on answering these points but I think that it is better to simply say that we care very deeply about our guests and their experiences with us, it is the reason we do what we do, & it is the reason that the vast majority of our guests return time after time & really enjoy the experience of staying with us at Trigony.

“Another great stay at Trigony”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2012

Stayed a couple of days before Christmas, As usual the hotel (Country House Hotel really) was cosy and welcoming. Staff are very friendly and helpful, the superior rooms are spacious with large beds and quality linen and the food really is a "cut above", all fresh, most of it locally sourced and expertly cooked. The breakfasts too are superb. The hotel is very dog friendly but they never intrude. If you have time to stay for a few days there are lots of places of interest in this historic part of Scotland. This hotel is a true gem and we would recommend it to anyone as long as Jan and Adam keep room 8 reserved for us!

Room Tip: All are good but go for a superior room if possible
