My bride and our families stayed at Trigony House on the 16th and 17th December for our wedding. We were married at Crichton Church in Dumfries on the 17th and chose to have our reception at Trigony on the Saturday. Our wedding nearly didn't happen because we were originally booked into the nearby Whitecroft Mansion which closed its doors in November and left our dream day in tatters.
On the afternoon I found out about Whitecroft I had ran through a list of 10 -15 alternate venues, when it looked like all was lost I stumbled across Trigony House. I was fortunate enough to speak to Adam who dropped everything to understand our requirements and tailor a package to our needs in a matter of hours. I then visited Trigony the following week to talk to Adam and Jan face to face and left feeling positive but slightly apprehensive about how everything would go.
We drove from Staffordshire to Scotland in the snow on the 16th December and arrived to a picture perfect setting, snowy hills, beautiful countryside and roaring open fires. We received a warm welcome from Jan and her daughter along with complementary hot drinks, biscuits and a welcome card. From then on I can only describe the experience as being exceptional, the food, the service and the hotel itself were all outstanding.
Our party of 25 all ate at Trigony on the Friday evening and even though they also had to cater for another large group we couldn't find fault with anything. The food was served with a short wait and it was of a very good standard, I had the Chicken Curry and my bride to be had the duck, both were excellent.
On our wedding day the staff at the Trigony went out of their way to make it a day to remember. The staff were extremely attentive without being intrusive during the morning while the party were getting ready ensuring the bride and her family had everything they wanted, not once did we have to find someone to ask for assistance. They even offered the bride and her father a complementary drink to settle the nerves before they left for the church.
Upon our return from the church we were greeted by a mulled wine reception and canapes which we had requested but allowed the Chefs some creative license. Jan had arranged for someone to move our belongings over into the bridal suite while we were away and we found our belongings carefully put away with a complementary bottle of Bollinger and our first wedding card waiting for us in our room. The dining room had been decorated to perfection, I gave Jan some very loose direction with regards to how our decorations needed to be laid out, however she had interpreted what we wanted perfectly, with the candles lit and the fires going it looked fabulous.
The wedding breakfast again was absolutely faultless, Adam had suggested we have 4 options for each course which I was skeptical could be delivered successfully. After having photographs, socialising with guests and speeches we were an hour late sitting down. Full credit to the chefs because they delivered a fantastic menu, some elements of which were tailored again to our requirements such as a posh angus steak and ale pie. My only slight criticism was that the pie was a bit on the large side but that can easily be forgiven on the balance of everything else.
After the meal we had a blackjack and roulette table set up in the bar for the evenings entertainment, again this was done without anyone from our party having to get involved. Later in the evening we received a cheese platter for guests who were feeling slightly peckish before my wife and I turned in at midnight. Some of our guests stayed up and I must give credit to the staff at Trigony because they continued to provide great service well into the early hours of the morning.
The whole party commented on how great the breakfasts were, I can personally vouch for the haggis which was very, very nice! We were sad to leave on the Sunday and if it wasn't for the fact that we were booked into the 5 star Chester Residence in Edinburgh I would have been content to stay for a few days.
The way I have described Trigony to my friends and family was that the whole place had a home like feel to it, it was warm, welcoming and the customer experience was one of the best I have encountered. We stayed in 3 hotels including Trigony the week of our wedding, two were 5 star hotels that cost £400 per night, two provided a personal touch and leaving us wanting more, Trigony House was one of them.
I'm sure this place has bad days, don't we all, but all I can say is that when this place is on form you would stuggle to find a nicer hotel and you would go a long way to find more genuine and friendly staff. We will be returning to Trigony House, if not in the next 6 months then for our 12 month anniversary.
Thank you everyone at Trigony for saving our wedding and making it such a magical day.
