We had planned to stay for a week and had 100% paid in advance as required by the resort. The stay was so bad, we cut it short and decided to forego the advance rather than ruin our holiday.
Positive: Great view of the Kanchanjunga range of mountains.
Negatives: The manager, when approached for anything, will talk to you for a minute and then tell you "I am busy". This was true even when there were only 2 of the 11 cottages occupied.
The staff is untrained. The manager is also sometimes the cook's helper. The cook is his wife. The meal orders were being mixed up frequently. There is no laundry service.
The hotel has unfriendly policies. For example, we paid for extra cots and for four people for the cottage, but they will give you two towels only. And this "policy" is inflexible.
The so called luxury cottage we had booked into is some distance from the dining area and not suitable for those with children or older people. Our cottage's bathroom window was missing. We had to argue to be downgraded to their super Delux room. Our new super Delux room had a broken basin and non functional room heater and geyser. The extra cot was broken and in the shape of a slide with a 30 degree slope.
The last 1 km up to the resort is over a rocky steep road for which taxis will charge anything upwards of Rs. 300 from the main road.
The prices of taxis and rooms seemed flexible based on how hard one bargained with the manager. We heard him readily offering room discounts of 20% to callers over the phone.
The resort does not ask you to sign for your meals. They supposedly keep track of it in a book and present you with a total amount at the end. We saw a few families arguing that they had not been presented with an accurate bill. So we maintained our own account of what we consumed and presented it to the manager and paid as per our account. Despite repeated requests, he did not provide us with a receipt for the food that we had consumed.
This resort, according to our agent, is supposed to be the best in the area. This is not true. The homestay in Kewzing, just 7 km down the road, is a far friendlier place. We would not have discovered this homestay, if we had not escaped from this resort.
