I have stayed at Bang Tao Beach before - last time was at the Amora (which was awwwwful!).
This time around was certainly an improvement, and although it wasn't the perfect hotel, it was good enough.
The good parts:
From previous trip advisor reviews, I booked a "Sea View" room. This was a tiny bit more expensive, but well worth it. We had a stunning view of the pool and beach which was lovely, and even a cute little balcony with chairs and table which I didn't think we'd have.
The atmosphere was lovely - relaxing but fun at the same time. It is clearly a family favourite hotel and there were many families here. There was also a French tour place called "Framissima" that was operating there, and their tour groups were always doing fun things like playing water polo in the pool, or aerobics or ping pong. The French guides asked us to join in with the fun more than once, which was nice considering they knew we were not part of the group.
As I mentioned before, I have stayed on Bang Tao before at Amora, but the Premier is on a much nicer part of the beach, definitely more low key and quiet than the other parts. It has some stunning trees and lovely part of the beach near to great beach cafes and street restaurants.
The room was tidy and more roomy than I thought too, which was nice. Bathroom was clean and functional, and everything else about the room was perfect really. The air-con worked a treat and it was great to get back to a nice clean, cool room with fresh sheets. The Sea View rooms were quiet (we never heard another rooms) - we could hear faint music by the pool but we enjoyed opening the balcony doors and hearing it.
The hotel was great with pick ups and drop offs at the airport. The transport was really comfy and air-conditioned. If we had any questions with restaurants nearby or anything they were also ready to answer questions, although their English wasn't great.
Things that weren't so great:
- We had room service once, and when the cleaners cleaned the room that day we saw our food sitting next to our room door, which we presumed was going to be taken away. It remained outside our room for our entire stay (5 days!!!) which was pretty disgusting as ants and flies started gathering... We didn't really care, but it was a bit weird to see someone cleaned our room every day and couldn't be bothered to move some plates.
- We had hot water (which is a necessity to me because I have a skin condition which means I need to shower in hot hot water) and one day it ran out which kinda sucked. But the next day it was back to working..
- There was a card in the room encouraging people to call front desk if they needed shaving cream or razors, so we called the front desk for a razor and someone only brought it the next day after we called at least four times. And they forgot the shaving cream, haha. But oh well.
Things I WOULDN'T advise:
- Staying in one of the lower floor rooms due to the sewerage smell, and it being more noisy.
- Paying for an included breakfast or meals. We ate breakfast at the hotel buffet and it was probably one of the worse ones I've been to. It's not bad, but it's not good either. And insanely expensive considering you can get the same meal (but tastier) made down on the relaxing beach at a quiet cafe for more than 50% cheaper. We had room service and a dinner once at the hotel which were ok, but not phenomenal or worth ordering again really. The club sandwich was pretty ok though!
- Using the hotel's masseuses/beauty services. I had a massage and mani/pedi done on the hotel grounds at one of their outdoor massage places and it was easily the worst I've ever had, and my partner agreed. All the women their talk constantly, cough all over you and are generally rude, inconsistent and do a crappy massage (and the worst mani/pedi EVERRR.) As well as this, it's overpriced, considering the terrible service. INSTEAD, go 5 minutes (if that) down the beach for one half price which is actually relaxing!! The women who were massaging at the hotel were all dressed in a yellow or pink polo shirts (uniform?) with the same logos on them. There are also a few stalls with the same women on the beach - AVOID AVOID AVOID! Instead find a stall that has women with plain clothes, or non-uniform. These women charge less and are a million times better and more respectful. I don't mind occasional chatter during a massage but the other women around the hotel yell and laugh and have no understanding that people come there to unwind. Also the beach stalls use coconut oil to massage you and at the hotel stalls it smells like oily Dettol! I preferred going to an "independent" stall where the woman weren't hired to stand around and do a crap job, instead they were working to please and to earn money, and I'd rather support a "family" business if that makes sense. And it's just way better.

All in all, it's worth a stay. If you want a cheap place that's great value, you won't regret staying here. For a couple staying for 5 days, it was a perfect, cheap get away that was just as relaxing.
Room Tip: Choose an upstairs room. While you'll have to walk up some stairs, it's worth doing that if...
