The hotel is nicely designed, one of the few boutique-style hotels on southern Algarve.
Rooms are also quite big and you got a beautiful landscaped garden however the whole place lacks atmosphere and charm.
Despite being almost fully booked the communal areas were always empty and felt very cold and sterile.
The biggest drawdown is the incredibly rude staff, Valverde set a new low in terms of service at boutique hotels. It's almost as if they are trying to fulfill all negative stereotypes about design hotels.
Staff, if there is any (reception was not staffed most of the times) is rude and makes you feel not welcome at this hotel.
Simple basic requests like ordering a boiled egg at breakfast, ordering a taxi or even asking for a restaurant recommendation in Lagos were only met with indifference.
Can you recommend a restaurant in Lagos? => Go to the city centre, there are restaurants everywhere
These were the kind of replies you got from the front desk, quite incredibly but seemingly the norm.
Overall I can really only recommend to go somewhere else unless you want to be treated poorly by an obnoxious and incompetent staff.
This hotel marked the low point of a 2-week journey through Portugal, where we have stayed in very nice hotels (Teatro/Porto; Romaneira/Douro; Altis Belem/Lissabon; the different Pousadas and the Casa Fajara in Carrapatteira are all recommended) and met very nice and charming people.
