“Don't go there!”

Our party consisted of my sister, my partner and myself. We booked a room for 3 pax (people) thinking the apartment was for 3 people, which is what we usually get. When we got to the room, the cleaners were still there, and we saw only two single beds in one room. We asked where the other bed was, and it was on it's side out in the hallway. It was to be put alongside the other two single beds, which would have made the room wall-to-wall beds, with only one small wardrobe to share amongst three adults. We went straight back to the reception to complain, and were told that they have NO APARTMENTS in the whole complex. However, we could have two separate (adjoining) rooms, for, you've guessed it, an extra 30 euros per night. So having paid an extra 210 euros, we went to our rooms. We found that there were NO HAIR DRYERS, and also NO TEA/COFFEE MAKING FACILITIES in the rooms. We could not even rent a hair dryer! We managed to get the restaurant to lend us a thermal flask to take hot water into the room to make tea. However, this did not help when we wanted to make tea/coffee early in the morning without having to get dressed to go to the restaurant! We then found that there was NO ENTERTAINMENT day or night...oh sorry, on Sunday they had Flamenco dancing, but by then we had found a nice bar down the road. Talking of bars, the one in this hotel has got the worst staff you could wish to meet. We called them 'Slouch an Grouch'! The older man, with the grey hair, slouched around as if he was just getting out of bed, and the younger, taller man needed a lesson in how to make cocktails. They were more concerned with making sure the other (German) customers were being attended to. We had ordered coffee and whiskeys, which was supposed to be brought to our table, but was just left on the bar, My partner had to go to collect the tray because the coffee was getting cold. Talking of Germans, we were the ONLY BRITS in the whole complex, and we were also told that we were the only the second Brits since early May. We questioned why there was no information books in English, even the menu outside the restaurant was written in German. We were told that this hotel caters mainly for Germans! We wanted to speak to the manageress of the hotel, only be told that she was 'busy'. We asked to make an appointment, and then were told that she could not speak English! That was the icing on the cake!! The restaurant food was excellent, plenty of variety and lots of hot food on display. The cleaners were everywhere and the hotel was clean. Unfortunately for us, the first 3 days of our week was torrential rain and thunder, and with no entertainment, we spent time just playing cards..deep joy! We could have played tennis, snooker or table tennis, but, yes, you've guessed it again, more euros!! I hope never to be so desperate to have to ever book this hotel again.

“loved the location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 July 2008

Stayed here in jul 2006 and went again in aug 2007. The hotel is in the residential area of mal pas, about 2km from alcudia town. There is a bus on weekdays that goes by the hotel to the centre (5 services per day).

Superb area. Very quite and secluded with villas owned by wealthy locals. There is a sandy cove beach 150m to the rear of the hotel with excellent waves.

The rooms are arranged as little cluster flats around the hotel site and are lovely. Rooms cleaned everyday with decent air con. Food is good (but greasy) especially when paella is on the menu.

The hotel is primarily booked by germans with very few english customers, making us feel a bit out of place. The bar is well-priced but entertainment just one night per week.

You can hire bikes from the hotel and use their tennis courts. Pool looked nice but never used it - went to the beach instead. Staff are extremely friendly and knowledgeable. A supermarket, marina and a few small restaurants are located 500m down the road and turn right. Taxis to the town cost just 4euro.
Definately thinking of coming back!!

  • Liked — location, tranquility, food, service
  • Disliked — too many germans, lack of entertainment

“Good, clean hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 August 2007

I stayed at the Mal Pas hotel for a week with my mum, sister, brother-in-law and 14 month old niece. We booked the holiday online with Thomas Cook (my brother-in-law organised it so I don't know if the following mistake was his or the travel agents). When we arrived at the airport there was no Thomas Cook rep there, and no coaches so we hired a car (from Hassos), without directions we found our hotel fairly easily, although we had to make a couple of guesses on route.
The girl at the reception desk was very friendly and showed us to our two ground floor rooms with a balcony (on the roadside). Un fortunately they had not been informed that we had a baby, so they had to hunt out a cot for us.
There was no sign of Thomas Cook at the hotel.
The hotel was lovely, clean with good communal areas, bar, lounge, pool area etc. If there was entertainment on in the evening there was not enough room for all the guests to watch, which was a bit of a shame. This hotel is not within walking distance of Alcudia when the weather is warm so most people tended to stay around the hotel in the evening. The drinks were very reasonably priced for an out of the way hotel.
The pool was good but got deep quite quickly and the childrens pool was too deep for our little one to stand up so she spent more time on the large step in the large pool. We were the only english people staying in the hotel (everyone else was german) this was fine but we did struggle to get a sun lounger! We spent quite a few days at the local beach, some reviews say that it is down steep steps, but if you walk on 100 yards there is a road leading down to the beach which we used. The beach was busy but did not get overcrowded. The sea was very shallow for quite a way, so perfect for children. There is a small cafe at the back of the beach, but it is quite expensive (we bought rolls from the supermarket).
The hotel staff were very friendly and they loved playing with my niece, they have plenty of high chairs and will sell half a pint of milk from the bar for a euro (they will even warm it for you)
Our room was cleaned 6 days a week and was a comfortable size (my sister's room as slightly smaller with a smaller bathroom), our only complaint was the trail of ants that kept coming in, they would crawl across our pillows and faces while we slept!
We had a good holiday but I would probably not return here ( or make a booking with Thomas Cook again, none of us have been able to find this holiday on their website since)
