“Give me More!”

We stayed in October 2011 on a (Cheap) last minute deal half board for ten days. We hired a car for the duration which helped, as you are a bit isolated. Loved the Hotel, yes it is dated in its decor, The hotel is family owned from being built in 1965, the staff were great and I learned have been there since opening and once retired the son’s and daughter’s take over! The room was very comfortable and having a sea view was a bonus, if lacking evening sun.

The beach was small but beautiful and regularly cleaned every morning for sea weed by one team of workers and manmade rubbish by another! Swam around the island every day, the sea was much warmer than the pool.

The food was excellent with a large choice, so anyone saying otherwise should pay a lot more for their holiday and go elsewhere. Some of the guests have been going for up to 27 years twice a year and I can see why, definitely geared for the older couples quiet and very relaxing. No music around the pool etc... Thank god!

The other hotel was closed while we were there so possibly more quiet than usual and lacking a shop in close proximity with anything in it, due to imminent closure for winter. Red Rum was an excellent bar 5 mins walk; the Caramel was always empty so we did not visit.

Mullet fishing was brilliant as long as you put them back for the next fisherman. Arrived with no gear and thanks to the generosity of fellow guests finished catching a few large fish on given equipment.

The old town of Alcudia was lovely (15 mins walk) with a market on Sunday well worth a visit along with a walk along the ramparts and a coffee in the square.

If it’s windy at the hotel go to the Port Alcudia beach, beautiful, very wide and sheltered from the northern wind.

Room Tip: If you like evening sun ask for a (rear) garden facing room top floor preferably. sea view fantasti...

“More than we expected at the Hotel More”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 October 2011

We had a pleasant and sunny week at the More in early October. We read zillions of reviews when we were looking for a holiday. There were so many conflicting stories that I eventually gave in and rang a travel agent (local Co-op - good deal). So, knowing it can be hard work to sift out the interesting bits, I have tried to keep this review factual and straightforwardish.

The More is a typical 3* hotel - walls aren't paper thin but it has the normal noises you get from furniture moving overhead and the odd noisy neighbours but not too bad overall. The hotel also has plenty of steps before you get to the lift level - nine at the main entrance and another nine up to reception. And a few down to the dining room.

The hotel is down a branch road with not much else around at this time of year. The hotel bar is OK and the nearest other bar was 5 minutes away - the Red Rum, which was due to close mid-October according to the barman. Otherwise it's a taxi or 15 minute fairly level walk into Alcudia old town. Alcudia old town is where you catch buses to Palma, Port Alcudia, Pollensa Port and Can Picafort. Port Alcudia with it's lovely beach can also be walked in about 20 minutes. There is a service bus to Palma for about 11 euros return but we found the Palmabus a good deal with hotel pick-up, a tour of Palma, about 5 hours free time with a supplied map and a free drink and small tapas at the El Corte Ingles store in Palma all included at 17 euros.

Rooms - fine with good bathroom and comfy beds. We had a seaview over the pool which was very pleasant. Good maid service every day and all very clean. Aircon and a safe (3 euros a day for the key). Flat screen 19" tv with three UK channels and lots of continental stuff. Had to watch Formula 1 in German. Deffo not as good as Martin Brundle and the BBC.

Food - all self-serve buffet and considering we were paying something like £15 per day for the room and half board the food was very good. Lashings of runny honey on Greek yog for breakfast first course and then pretty much anything you would expect in a 3 star UK hotel including very good coffee. The evening meals all had something interesting and were different every day. Fair enough, some items weren't as hot as you would expect but it was largely tasty and decent quaility. Only minus was plonk being a bit pricey in the restaurant. The staff seem to clear dishes occasionally but it's mostly DIY taking your own dishes to the trolley. Not a big deal and at least you don't have to wash the rascals.

Swimming in the bay at the side of the hotel was fine especially if you went along the beach a little way to avoid the stony seabed near the hotel. Lots of loungers by the pool or on a concrete deck or in a small grassed shaded area.

There were three evenings of entertainment, mostly what looked like local performers doing dance and Flamenco routines on the small stage behind the bar. The rooms directly over reception and the bar were boom-boom on the odd disco night but it stopped at 12.00. Apart from these nights it was the hotel bar, the lounge telly, the Red Rum bar or amusing yourself elsewhere.

All in all, a good do for a week's winter sun and at the price, a very good do.

Room Tip: Sea view rooms have a lovely view but don't get the evening sun. Higher rooms are probably quiet...

“Hotel More'”

Read the review by "GulliverG" before we went to this hotel, and I just can't understand what his problem is. Ok, so the hotel has a wooden entrance, so what?......You are asked to take your plates to a trolley, So what?.......Yes there are some trivial down sides, but all in all, the hotel was fine. We went in early October, 2011 and there are only 2 hotels there (sharing some facilities), and just as we arrived, the other hotel closed down for the season. So, there was never any problem with sunbeds, no rush for the pool, no crowding on the beach. One complaint I read is that there are only 5 sun canopies round the pool, but I can tell you this --- After a very windy day on Thursday, there are now none left. The food at the hotel is adequate, plenty of it and you can get 2nds if you want to. Only problem we found is that the walls are paper-thin, and you can hear a fly fart next door. Walked into Alcudia Town most days which is a 30 minute walk, and it is is only 5e for a taxi back if you decide to buy anything. Would we go again? answer is YES, and for me that is a first.

“Good value, relaxing place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 October 2011

My family and I stayed in Hotel More for one week in October and we were all impressed with the hotel. We paid for full board, and I'm very glad we did because the food was excellent. I'd read a few reviews on here that made me a little nervous of the food, but really, for what we paid for it, it was excellent. If we hadn't done full board, the trip would have been almost triple in price, because the local restaurants were very expensive.

We couldn't have asked for a better location, the road you have to cross to get to the beach is more of a driveway than a road, it's really quiet and the only traffic was buses pulling up to take people to excursions or to the airport. The beach is a lovely sandy beach and was really lovely for relaxing on with a good book. The pool was excellent as well, and as most people chose to sunbathe than to swim, I had it mostly to myself all week!

Now comes the only downside I really had with Hotel More, and that was the service of the staff. The evening receptionist didn't really seem to care that much, although the daytime receptionist was a lot more friendly but not by much. Thankfully, I personally didn't have much issue, but one guest I was speaking to mentioned that, despite constant reminders, they still hadn't replaced a bulb in her room. When she complained to staff about this, the girl behind the desk didn't seem to know what she could do to help, and the woman was left to her own devices. The bar staff were a lot more friendly, though I did get the impression that the one gentlemen that kept serving me in the evening didn't want to be there at all.

All in all, a good trip, with good value for money. If this hotel could raise it's standards in the service department, it could be a much better hotel, but for what it is, we all enjoyed ourselves and would gladly come again.
