“A real gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 November 2008

We had a wonderful visit to Normandy with friends from the UK who found this little treasure for our introductory stay in France. Our room was quaint, clean, cozy and very private. I loved the old fashioned bathtub for a really good soak with lovely scented soap we purchased at the local market. The sitting and dining rooms were comfortable and spacious and our hosts were very accommodating, friendly and knowledgeable about the area. They recommended some very fine restaurants and even found us a shop where we could purchase cider cups, a local handicraft. The sweeping coastlines of Normandy, the tiny seaside villages, the fabulous dining, the scenic drives – I can’t wait to get back and explore more of the region. Definitely recommend a visit to this B & B where the service is excellent, the price is right and the ambience thoroughly enjoyable.

“Peace, Comfort and a very reasonable price”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 September 2008

We travelled with friends from Canada and crossed at the channel tunnel - it was about a 4 hour drive, punctuated with a long lunch at Honfleur and a visit to the tapestry at Bayeux (which is just down the road and really does merit a visit).

This was a great find - two smallish but beautifully finished rooms just upstairs from a fabulous library - so many books, so little time! There are other, bigger rooms at La Petite Grange but we loved the arrangement we had - our two rooms were the only ones over the library and we had plenty of room to lounge down there on overstuffed sofas with a cup of tea or with the find of the trip - Normandy cidre.

Our friendly (but not too friendly) hosts, Ed and Mo gave us great recommendations for restaurants and local sights as well as two super breakfasts.

Raffles, the well-behaved dog has four new best friends.

This location, so close to the Cherbourg ferry port is in a lovely quiet part of France and is well-placed for visiting the Normandy beaches and cemeteries. We had visited them before but on Ed and Mo's suggestion we visited St Maire Eglise and saw the life-size figure of an American paratrooper (think the Red Buttons character in The Longest Day) suspended from the church steeple. It must have been a really long day for that paratrooper!

At 50 euros per night per room it was excellent value and gets my firm recommendation.

“Home from home B&B near Cherbourg ferry”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 September 2007

Just 16 miles from Cherbourg port this is an ideal B&B for those exploring Normandy. Understandably, for the price, just 50 euros a night per room, they are moving away from one night bookings. But stay a few days and you will find a beautifully converted barn in a rural setting, very peaceful and full of character. It has a a feeling of a real home from home, just as their website shows. Ed and Mo are great hosts, and apart from totally, relaxing, quality accomodation you will find you get a great breakfast too.

You can't argue with the price. We stayed at 5 different places in France, all of them costing much more, with two of them costing 3 times as much as La Petite Grange, but none of them felt as homely as La Petite Grange. We thoroughly recommend it.

  • Liked — Homely accomodation
  • Disliked — Really can't think of anything that could be improved
