“Never again”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012

My husband and I stayed here for one night as his work was holding there Christmas party here. OMG never again. The room we stayed absolutely stank of cigarettes. We don't smoke. The bed linen included. We slept with all the windows open lovely in December. The landlord said he couldn't smell the smoke as he was a smoker himself ! The food we had that night was absolutely diabolical.Seeming as we had preordered our food we were in for a nasty shock over cooked, tasteless and cold. All three courses were awful. I have written to the Marstons HQ but have not heard anything back. The landlord himself what a miserable man he was. I wou
D not recommend this pub to any one. It is a shame as its in a lovely area. This is one too miss.

“REAL VALUE FOR MONEY.”

I stayed at the Eliot Arms recently whilst in the area on business. The Hotel is in the Cotswold Waterpark, an outstandingly beautiful area, but still within easy reach of the motorway system. I found the venue on Laterooms.com, and was attracted by the very reasonable room prices in comparison to other places in the area. The Eliot was certainly not a disappointment, and was a very pleasant experience indeed.
My colleague and I both had very spacious rooms, both very well appointed, and I even had the luxury of a four-poster bed. The rooms were spotlessly clean, and were attended to every morning. Breakfast was included in the price, and was ample in proportion, and well presented.
The Eliot Arms Hotel is a Marstons Pub, and although this point may put-off some people, I can say that the Hotel is very well run by the Manager "Harry", who is really on top of his game. We were made to feel very welcome, and nothing was too much trouble. The pub is a typical country pub, not a rowdy place but quite genteel, and is well used by the locals all of whom made us feel welcome.
We had our evening meals in the in-house restaurant which catered from a very good Marstons Pub Menu, offering discounted meals, two-for-one's, and "Steak Night". The food was excellent value, well cooked and presented, and hearty portions.
Our stay at the Eliot really was an enjoyable one, and I would recommend it to all travellers who want good clean accomodation, good value meals, pleasant ambiance, and a comfortable place for a drink. The price we paid for all of this? It was a steal at £30 per room per night, totally unbelievable for an hotel in this area. Give the Eliot a try, it really is real value for money.

Room Tip: Room 10 is a very spacious room with its own sitting room and a very large bathroom, ideal for a fam...

“Rude landlord and land lady”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

This is part of the Marstons chain of pubs and inns.
The food was ok for the price

When we tried to order a drink at the bar the landlord wouldn't even make eye contact with us and barked at us that "banks is off" with no suggestion of what else might be available or any type of conversation.

His wife was no better when we noticed the vegetarian came with prawn crackers she told us to "take it or leave it"

In my opinion they are a couple well suited to each other but not to a bar in a small village.

Being new to the village we definitely won't be patronising the Eliot Arms.

“Was a good pub until the new landlord came along.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 December 2011 via mobile

I used to drink here, as did many other locals, until the new landlord was appointed. I'm not sure if he has noticed but his lack of warmth, customer service, and general unfriendliness has driven most customers to the pub across the road. I must add though that the other pub also came into new ownership shortly after the Eliot arms did, and the new landlord there has made significant improvements. Anyway people vote with their feet, and unless there is a significant change or a new landlord then the Eliot arms will remain a lonely place to drink in.

“Superb value in authentic 16th century pub”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 December 2011

Very welcoming staff, comfy quiet room(s) and excellent good value meals. Not for tall people as the rooms are authentic 16th century with very low ceilings but we loved it. We were upgraded to the family room as the regular rooms were taken at no extra charge. The restaurant specials change each night and the full cooked English breakfast is spot on.
