“Hotel closed around us!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 January 2012

I have delayed writing on here as I have been trying to get some compensation from Thomsons since our return but with no success. We stayed at the Alcudia Pins from 18th - 29th October, 2011 as a family of 5 and accompanied by my husbands sister, her husband and their 2 children. The first week was lovely and any little niggles we had were of no real significance. However, by the middle of the second week there it became obvious that the hotel was closing down around us. It is true that the hotel was fairly quiet but as paying guests (and it wasn't cheap) surely we had a right to expect a supply of food and drink! The hotel is not in a highly developed area of Playa de Muro so there are few restaurants outside of the complex and these closed during our 1st week, the local supermarket included. This was ok as there was a choice of restaurants on site and a supermarket. But as we entered the 2nd week the restaurants gradually closed leaving just the buffet restaurant for us to use, and the quality of food on offer went drastically downhill with very little choice. We had trouble finding anything our 2 year old would eat. Then without warning the on site supermarket shut on Friday leaving us without food or drink. There was basically no food outlet left open and just a bar for drinks but they didn't offer anything for kids. For lunch we had crisps! The buffet that night was appalling and as there were only a handful of tables laid up we asked if we could sit together at an already in situ table for 9 and were told 'no, as the tables are being laid for a staff party'.
The sunloungers were stacked and taken away very noisly early one morning mid week, there was no lifeguard and in fact my 9 year old niece had to rescue a small girl who had fallen off a lilo and couldn't reach the pool side. The creche was closed from wednesday, there were no Thomsons reps on Thursday as they all had a day off together (we went to complain but no one was there), the gift and paper shop shut Wednesday , the beach buffet closed Thursday, there was no evening entertainment on Thursday and Friday, goods which we bought from the supermarket were out of date by some time, no vanilla ice cream anywhere in the hotel , the pool bar, trattoria and pizzeria closed from Friday, the games room and kids splash pool were closed from Friday, and the list goes on. We literally felt as if we were an inconvenience still being there. We were so glad to leave on Saturday. We have sent 2 letters and photos to Thomsons but they seem to think that treating guests like this is acceptable as it was the end of the season. All I can advise is to avoid this place like the plague at the beginning and end of the holiday season as it was an extremely unpleasant experience.

“Fantastic!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 January 2012

Ignore any negative reviews. We came here as a family of five in July 2011 and it was fantastic. The staff couldn't do enough to help. Wouldn't even let you pick up a glass if you broke one. They worked long, hard hours and yet still had a smile on their faces. The Trattoria served excellent food. In fact, the food was great throughout our stay, with plenty of choice to suit every palate. Was slight issue with sunbeds in that there weren't enough, but there were staff going around removing towels off empty beds, for those who had 'reserved' spaces, which was great. Would recommend going all-inclusive as would otherwise be expensive. Room was cleaned most days and towels replaced daily. Lifeguard on duty, plenty of entertainment for the kids. Pool water checked every few hours and cleaned daily. We had a room that overlooked the pool with a partial sea view and while it was right above the stage, this wasn't a problem because with it being a family hotel, all entertainment and music stopped at around 11.00 p.m. Would highly recommend this hotel. Busy but well organised. Perhaps not suitable for young couples. Have got plenty of happy, fond memories to take away with us for British dark winter nights ...! Thank you Alcudia Pins and Thomsons.

“Really Really Good”

Last summer my family and I spend 10 days here. wish it was 15 or 20.
Really good food. A beach too beautiful, looked like Caribbean, no really!

Clean. Friendly Staff. Complete (stores, pools, entertainment, internet).
Finnish Entertainment team. Funny hardworking people. Managed to keep my kids (4 and 6) flabbergasted and entertained with their daily differing shows.

“LOVED IT! Will def return!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 December 2011

Me and my partner and two boys {ages 7 and 13} stayed for a week in the October half term. We could only book half board in the UK however in the hotel reception we were able to upgrade to all inclusive for a very good price {£400 for all of us for the full week} and at this point we had a chance to see the restaurants and make an informed decision. The main buffet restaurant had a good variety and breakfast was one of the high lights of our day! The Pins Burget bar is by far the best lunch option at the resort open between midday and 4pm with a great grill buffet with chips, chicken, loads of meats, cheese's, salads and so much more I can't remember it all! None of us ever went hungry lets say! The Pizzaria offered pizza free to all inclusive and at a reasonable rate to none AI throughout the day and all inclusive also offers two evening meals there instead of the main buffet - twice a week was more than enough for us. Most drinks were included and in the Salon bar all of our drinks were included in the all inclusive, wines, beers, kids drinks, spirips and mixers andcocktails to!

The resort was fairly empty for the size of the hotel for the week and there were mostly Germans in the first few days but after that it was pretty much all brits and a really great bunch - we all got to know eachother around the pool and it was like being on holiday with friends! The pool is fantastic and we could all swim in it even in October and the outdoor flume slide was very well used by the kids and us parents too! The kids entertainment was great too and a bespoke football tournament was arranged daily as the majority of kids were boys...there were also smaller kids clubs which our boys were too old for but I saw other familes were happy with the set up.

The location of the hotel is FANTASTIC - literally walk from the pool right on to the beach! The beach is great and nice sand {not gritty or pebbly} and the sea was warm - we went in every day!

If you walk down the beach a bit there are pedlos but before you take one out make sure you check it has the bar to climb back on when you're out at sea - ours wasn't and that was a lesson well elarned, I would always check as once out of the pedlo we struggled to get back in and I ended up swimming back to shore!

The town itself is great, lots to do even though some places were closing for the end of the season.

I would reccommend this hotel to family and friends and we will certainly be returning next year. Because of the time of year there were no Q's for anything and there isn't a thing I could fault about the whole place.

Room Tip: We were in block C {Ibiza} which allowed us a great pool and sea view.

“October Closure”

We recently returned from a one week all inclusive. Started well, then towards the end of the week hotel facilities (restaurants, bars,Pool Lifeguard !) began closing around us. Thomson reps disappeared for full day as well and entertainment programme had no basis in reality. Even local staff commented that it must not be pleasant as the hotel began shutting around us.We complained to reps about this at time and have since tried to engage Thomsons in discourse but no response after several attempts to contact them. October half term week ? Its so quiet even the hotel management will wish you werent there !
