“Mystic Kingdoms of Wine - Castello di Sinio, Piamonte”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012 via mobile

I use the Mystic Kingdoms of Wine term to refer to places that combine wine production facilities with first class hotel and restaurant. Although this is not strictly the case for Castello di Sinio, it is located in the center of the extraordinary Piemonte wine region, almost half way between the vineyards of Barolo and Barbaresco. The confortable accomodations in the ancient castle make it and excellent base of operations to explore Piemonte wine country.

“Not for us”

Its taken me a while to review this hotel because I needed some time to decide if my impressions were excessively negative when so many rave about the place.
Our room, a junior suite was excellent ( I cant recall which room it was though) it was directly opposite the clock tower on the church which was quite amusing. The property itself is simply beautiful. Our reception though was less than warm and the manner in which we were treated was at times quite odd. I dont wish to criticise excessively, I will just leave it by saying that despite the beauty of the buildings and the surrounds, its not to my taste.

“A really charming hotel in a sleepy little town”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 November 2011

We spent two nights at Castello di Sinio. What a treat and a great way to end our vacation. The Piemonte area was amazing; I am now a bonafide italophile! Denise, the owner, was working away in the lobby area when we arrived and was always very helpful. Actually, all the staff were super helpful, and after travelling through several areas in France, Switzerland and Germany on our trip - the friendliness seemed a little overwhelming in comparison. Not a bad problem to have I think. The hotel has been modernized on the inside, but has retained the charm of the stone walls and wood beams. The bathroom was chock-full of amenities including all sorts of creams! After a lovely day spent enjoying the fanastic wines of the area, it was great to come back and relax by the pool and enjoy the last bit of the sun. Breakfast was always excellent, and we were able to sit outside in the garden both days. Dinner at the hotel was quite the event. HUGE portions and always very tastefully done. Denise had also prepared a very thorough packet of information with all sorts of titbits on towns to visit and restaurants to try out in the area.

The town of Sinio itself is very small and did not have much of anything going on, but I we did see the some locals playing what looked like boule or bocce one evening.

Absolutely worth the price, very romantic and highly recommended.

“What a lovely hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 October 2011

We spent 4 days at the Hotel Castello di Sinio in the Piemonte area and loved every minute of it. It has all the amenities you expect in a 5 star hotel in the US and the 4 star hotel in Europe. So the best of both worlds. The staff is all very helpful and attentive. Dinner was incredible. Denise, the owner/chef, has gotten everything right. We were there during harvest of the Barolo, Barbera and Barbersca grapes. The hotel arranged for private winery tours as well as giving us a map of the area and instructions to get to the various wineries not exclusive to private tours. I highly recommend this hotel. Go as quick as you can get there. You will, however, need a car.
