“wonderful jungle retreat”

Spent just one night as we wanted to get away from the beach believe it or not -this retreat is an amazing work of art in the jungle hills - great for nature walks and birding not to mention sleeping in.
Terrific pool looking out over the rainforest. Food is excellent but a bit pricey so ask ahead of time. Unique place -highly recommended if you love nature and peace and quiet

“Nature Paradise”

The sound of bird and wildlife echo around the valley morn and night. Just you and the birds (& Regina & the staff at Cuffie River of course). A fantastic place to recharge the batteries and a beautiful pool to cool off in the heat of the day.
The meals are fantastic - loosen your belts. Thoroughly recommend a stay at Cuffie River

“Outstanding in every way”

This place is absolutely amazing. Well managed, beautifully maintained and lovingly looked after by the manager, Regina, who set it up decades ago in honour of her father, who owned it and who passed away when she was a baby. Wonderful food (home made!) and exquisite location, in a very tranquil place. Good bird guide available, spacious rooms and plenty of shade. Not too hot because of the elevation. If you want entertainment, please stay away. If you love nature and don't mind being woken up by noisy birds, you will find this unforgettable. We want to go again!

“perfect retreat....deserves to be a must stay venue”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 May 2010

what a fabulous find....a comfortable stress free environment with an excellent raised pool, perfect for lazing and watching parrots fly overhead and motmots in nearby trees.
The place is clean, excellent food and helpful staff.
It`s not for all inclusive, need entertainment types and certainly not for teens, just bring those books you were always going to read, hideaway in the hills and woods or just stand and stare from the several balconies on the property, you`ll not be disappointed.
A toad(or was it John Prescott, hard to tell) joined us on the patio one evening to watch Gordon Browns resignation speech.
Any complaints? Yes, we only booked 4 nights, serious error on our part.
A truly magical experience, don`t miss it.

“Wonderful getaway”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 February 2009

My husband and I went to Cuffie River as part of a birding trip package that started at Asa Wright Nature lodge and went on for three days at Cuffie River. While Asa Wright was very special as a well-known birding mecca, Cuffie River was more like a hidden gem.

We were in a group of 13. We were given very nice large rooms with two double beds in each room, a large bath, and a private terrace or balcony. Everything was very clean and we were amazed that all the rooms were left wide open on the balcony sides to catch the breezes. It was very safe.

Regina, the owner/manager/chef was delightful; her cuisine was excellent! We had something like 6 meals there (in addition to breakfasts) and she never repeated herself. Dishes were many, flavors were subtle and distinctive and she seemed to take delight in amazing us with her versatility.

There is a nice, open air swimming pool surrounded by a raised terrace from which one can sit and observe the birds flying by and landing in nearby trees: flocks of squawking parrots and chachalacas; various humming birds coming to feeders, and others.

While we were there we had several arranged field trips--a stop on the way from the airport to see birds who make the local sewerage treatment plant their home--not at all "yucky!" and lots of birds; a long walk around the Cuffie River property to see the local flora and fauna, with Desmond, the local and expert guide to point everything out, and a trip to the west end of the island and out to Little Tobago island to see the sea birds. The day was rainy and the sea trip out there very choppy. If you do this bring your dramamine!)

In general this was a delightful, relaxing and delicious place to spend a few days.
