We stayed in the Monte Dourado complex for 10 days. This complex is great for its location, it is only a two minute walk into the town of Carvoeiro and a five minute walk to the beach. The town has lots of bars and restaurants and the Portuguese are very welcoming. There are lots of cafes beside the beach that you can go to during the midday sun. If you are into Italian food I'd recommend an Italian restaurant called California or if you are into Indian food there are two restaurants, one overlooking the beach and one in the town. All are within walking distance from the complex. During the night, there is a lot going on in the town, music is played on stage and there are a lot of families out, so the town is very family friendly.
The complex itself is very large. Our apartment was very spacious, it had two bedrooms, two bathrooms and spectacular view overlooking the town and beach. The pool was right outside our front door. The only problem that we found with the location of our apartment within the complex was that we had to climb a very steep hill from the entrance that went past reception and all the way to our apartment, it was okay for us but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone elderly. We found out that there were steps on the other side that brought us from the town to the back of the complex. Either way it was still hard climbing the hill late at night.
The caves are a great excuse to get away from the pool or the beach. There about a 10 minute walk from the complex. There is a a cafe at the caves where you can get something to eat and you can take some photos.
There is a large supermarket five minutes from the complex called 'Intermarche' but you would have to get a taxi, so if you want to stock up, get a taxi from the taxi rank just outside Smilers bar. The fare is reasonably cheap.
If you are planning to go on a trip away from the town and complex there is an office on the street which the complex entrance is on and you can book there. We went to Slide splash which was a great day out.
The reception has a computer and internet access which was handy. The transfer from Faro airport to the complex was €10 each way per person. Its about a 45 minute journey.
Overall it was a great holiday. I would definitely come back to this complex in the future during the summer months.
Room Tip: Avoid apartments at top of hill if elderly
