We went for a 10 day holiday to Phuket mid 2010 and decided to stay at the Village in Karon beach after seeing their website. It was in a good location, in northern Karon, just a short walk to a great restaurant strip; we were a bit disappointed that there weren't many bars in the area. We got a package deal through the travel agent.
The hotel was a tropical paradise, with our pool access villa nesseled amongst jungle like vegetation. The room and facilaties were beautiful with a very exotic feel. The room had air conditioning, an in-room safe, ketle and hair dryer. The pool was almost entirely ours throughout our stay as it was the off-peak season, which was wonderful, and I enjoyed my private morning swim.
BEWARE: this tropical paradise is located next to a swamp so there are LOTS of mosquitos. Invest in a can of tropical strength insect replent and use before you go outside in the morning. I got devoured by mosiquitos on my first day.
The staff were all lovely and very proud of their work. The only staff member that we didn't enjoy being around was the manager: she was rather cold and uncompromising, and even told us off for feeding the birds when one swooped and picked up part of our breakfast! The atmosphere instantly changed when she was around; it seemed like she made the staff uncomfortable, and we didn't really enjoy being in the hotel when she was there.
There was a no external food allowed in the hotel room, but we often used the back paths to get in and out, so we still managed to get some in and out. The breakfast was lovely and always very filling, no buffet as there wasn't enough guests, instead freshly made from a menu selection. We didn't end up dining at the restaurant for any other meals. There were spa facilaties available but these were very pricey so we didn't try them as cheaper options were available only a short distance away.
We really enjoyed our stay but think that next time we'll probably choose a cheaper hotel as we didn't really spend much time in our room. It would be great for a few days of relaxing.
