This was my 11th time to Thailand and one of the best thanks to the Horizon Karon Resort. Staff were friendly & helpful. Room very clean & a lovely relaxing view from the balcony. There was also a DVD player to use. Grounds a pleasure - lots of greenery. Pools were lovely - especially the top one (which I quite often had to myself) & was always cleaner than the main one with pool bar. Location to restaurants in Karon/Kata Village very good. Turn right at the Stadium for the Halle Hallo - cheap & good food. Free shuttle bus into Patong was efficient & the trip in had very nice views.
Walking up and down the hill was great exercise, as were the 50 stairs up to my room - only downside would be that this Resort is not for people with a mobility disability.
This was truly a wonderful, relaxing 10 day stay, which included 5 free buffets dinners (Thai theme nights were the best) and a fantastic (and hygenic) Thai massage. Breakfast had a reasonable selection.
A word of warning - DO NOT stay at the sister resort at Patong Beach (stayed last year & it was the worst Resort I've ever stayed at in Phuket).
Come to the Horizon Karon and be pleasantly surprised. Will go back for sure.

We stayed for 9 nights in a pool entry room in the Adult area. Having been to Phuket twice before we have done all the touristy things and wanted to just be able to rest and relax in a nice resort. The room was nice and spacious with a huge flat screen tv (and dvd player), the bathroom was also a good size with a large separate bath and shower. There was a lounge looking out onto the pool. We felt it was definitely worth paying the extra for the pool entry room. Most days we had the pool to ourselves until around 4pm when people seemed to come back from where ever they had been during the day. Noise was not a problem from the pool as the hours of use were 8am to 8pm. The room was nice and clean on arrival but the daily clean was not nearly as good as it should be. Yes there is a lot of stairs, we counted well over 100 for us to get up to the breakfast area of a morning but we didn't mind them, having said that I can understand that some people may find it a difficult place to get around if they have mobility problems. The walk to the beach was also not a problem, yes there is a tuk tuk to take you up & down but the phone to call them to get you from the bottom to return you to the hotel wasn't working in our entire stay which some people found frustrating. Even though there is only one key card given per room we didn't find it a problem in the end. The staff gave us another card which enabled us to keep the electricity going in the room for which ever one of us stayed behind while the other had a massage or went out somewhere. The staff were all lovely, friendly and helpful. The only thing we could fault was the food. For us it is too westernised. We love the Thai food and would prefer their food to the normal Australian menu which was usually what there was more of. The quality was not as good as the previous resort we stayed in or the resort we moved to after leaving Horizon. We heard people saying the food was great but having experienced places with much higher quality food for the same price means we wouldn't return to Horizon Karon Beach.

excellent check in service, staff very friendly and accomodating.we stayed in the privileged club pool access room which was massive, huge king size bed which was as hard as cement, and we had to call reception to get them to come and put extra padding down which they kindly did although it made little difference.there was also a single bed and a ,lounge and ranch slider doors which opened out to large pool with swim up bar it was truley loverly the only down fall was you had to go down 4 flights of stairs to get there
no good for the elderly especially having to go back up them frequently. Like wise the breakfast restuarant was up yet another 3 flights of stairs which was a major downfall we mainly just went and had a continental breakfast which was served in the privileged club which was also very nice. Language proved to be a issue there in the hotel as we requested extra water and coffee etc.... and they arrived at our door with toilet paper of all things which we did see the funny side of. dinners at the restuarant which was on a lower floor no stairs to climb was excellent the food was beautiful always a different theme and catered for everyones needs even vegetarians was wonderful and the staff there were always too happy to assist and always had smiling faces to see.Location of the hotel was alright they had a free tuk tuk service which took you down the bottom of the hill and if you got back to the hotel by 6pm you get free ride back up the hill otherwise its quite a hike up the hill.Resort had internet access which was 200bht for 30 mins which was pretty good.

Just got back from a 12 day stay at the Horizon. In summary, my friend and I were very happy with this place.
The staff were extremely helpful and friendly at all times. The resort is well located for conducting trips into Patong and various local beaches. The rooms were very clean and serviced every day. The breakfast had a good choice. The day spa was excellent.
I have seen comments about it not being close to Patong. To be honest, if you want the madness of Patong on your door step, then the Horizon is not for you. We found that on the couple of occasions we went to Patong, the initial tuk-tuk fare was 300 baht, but we never paid more than 250. In addition to this, if you are looking for beautiful beaches, Patong beach is not the place to go. Kata beach for instance is stunning and not far from the Horizon.
Probably our only complaints would be
1) the quality of the complementary dinners which were given to us. We were given 6, but only used one and instead opted for the local restaurants, which are exceptional value for money.
2) the water quality in the pool. The pool generally had a cloudy appearance to it ... this was more obvious in the evenings, when the under water lights were switched on. I'm not sure if someone made a comment to the resort staff, because after 5 days, the clarity of the water improved significantly however this was accompanied by a very strong chlorine smell.

Would I/we stay here again ... yes we would.
