Living in Singapore, Phuket is a short flight and great for a long weekend away. This is my second time of visiting Marina Beach Resort, and it did not disappoint. This trip was with my sister and I opted for the Jungle room, which was noticably bigger than the Garden Room in which I had previously stayed (with my boyfriend, so not quite as much need for privacy :) !)
Rooms are beautifully decorated, clean and welcoming, although I found the mattress really hard!)
As previous travellers have stated this resort is on a slope, and would not be suitable for people with walking difficulties, or very young children; I saw a woman struggling a couple of times with a baby buggy up the hill.
The location of the hotel is perfect; bars and restaurants are outside of the hotel (rooms are set back so far into the jungle that you would never hear noise!) we stocked up on water etc from the mini mart at the entrance.
I have a dilema with the breakfast... it is ok; fresh meats, breads and fruits and eggs to order. Perhaps I have been too spoilt with the oppulance (and extravagence) at the hyatt and other resorts - often too much food and a lot of waste.
The pool area is beautiful - a really relaxed feel to it. Bring mozzie spray as you are in the trees!
The towel system is great; simply leave used towels outside your room before 8pm, they will be collected and replaced with fresh ones, ready for the next day!
Kata and Karon may not be to everyone's taste; it is very touristy. If you want a beach holiday, with good food, bars and lots of Eastern Europeans (!), this is the place for you.
I will be going back!
