“Clean and Friendly”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2011

My husband and I stayed here for 10 days. We booked the extra large room and really enjoyed our accommodation. Our room was at the back of the building, if you get a balcony your room faces the noisy area so opt for the big room but without a balcony. We had a fan and air conditioning, the room was very large with a dining and kitchen area. There is a refrigerator but no cooking options. There was also a television and plenty of storage. The shower was great, high pressure and hot. I read about cleanliness complaints previously, but the room was very clean. It was a little bit tired in appearance, but that is normal in a tropical climate. We had fresh bedding and towels brought every day and our rooms were very efficiently cleaned.
Breakfast isn't at the restaurant downstairs, that doesn't open until 1pm, but you can get your breakfast at their other restaurant just a few doors down.
Our only inconvenience was in regards to the lock to our room, which didn't work well and we had to get three new key cards and make use of the maid's key card under one circumstance. We were lucky that there was always staff available when we had a problem with the door.
Also, there is free wifi that worked very well during our stay.
Please note that this is like a serviced apartment, the entrance is shared with a restaurant and the rooms are above. We were never bothered by any noise or smell from the restaurant. The only services you can expect are cleaning and room service.
All in all we had a great stay and really enjoyed the friendly staff, spacious room, and excellent sleeping conditions.

Dear Rebelzilla,

We kindly Thank You for placing a nice fair review of our Boutique Guesthouse. We're so pleased you enjoyed your stay with us.

Also, Thanks for mentioning the issue with the locks. Actually the current lock system is VingCard which is supposed to be one of the best in the world (especially when you compare the price with other Keycard lock systems). However, we started having problems with the locks when they were about 3 years old (keycards don't always work), and therefore we began testing new systems at our sister resort Pacific Club last year. We have installed a proximity keycard lock system there and have practically zero problems. And this week at the very same time as I'm writing this response We are replacing all the locks at all of our properties including Paradise Inn with the new proximity card system. We're quite confident the problem is eliminated.

BTW, we are the only guesthouse or hotel in this price range which offers a keycard lock system not only for guest convenience (if you lose a keycard it's lot's cheaper than replacing / rekeying a lock), but also the keycard system are the only way to deter (eliminate) theft. The normal modus operandi for gangs who prey on small less technologically safe guesthouses and hotels in Thailand is to visit a property several times changing rooms every night so they can make copies of the keys, especially the housekeepers key. Then they return one last time and around dinner time they clean out all the rooms they've managed to get keys for and disappear before morning . Unfortunately this is a big problem in Thailand (not sure about the rest of the world). However, since we have key card lock systems at all our properties combined with electronic safes and lockboxes in every room, we have never had a theft incident, Thank God.

Also, we're aware of the tired look of the upholstery and curtains and therefore will be replacing them this year which will give the rooms a new look. Constructive comments such as yours make sure to keep things like that on the top of the list. Of course we repaint every year :-)

We welcome all travelers who wish to be safe and comfortable on a reasonable budget to consider our budget properties Paradise Inn and Karon Cafe.

Happy Traveling,

Uncle Eric

“The perfect place to spend New Year without blowing the budget.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2011

We've now spent the last two New Year's staying at the Paradise Inn, Karon. It's a well run, comfortable and friendly Guesthouse. It does exactly what it says on the tin - no pretentions, no frills - just honest, good value accommodation in the heart of the town.
The staff may only have a limited grasp of English, but how good are your Thai / German / Russian skills ? Please give them a break. Ann is a star !
The beach is only a 5 minute walk away, and there are plenty of restaurants, shops and bars on your doorstep.
There are plenty of hotels which can offer more facilities if you wish to pay £200 a night. They'll not offer the same level of personal service or friendliness, if you make the effort to speak to the staff. We'll definitely stay at the Paradise Inn on future visits.

“Charming”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2011

A pleasant surprise, quite different to normal hotels. Nothing for people who demand 100% hotel service. However, we had a very charming room, with all amenities that hotels offer, except hot water cooking. Very good safe, we had a nice balcony. Excellent shower, good air con, and also big fan.
True a bit loud nights, but I like to sit and look at the night life. The door was also very good, and locked out most of the music sound from the bar.. However I looked into another, small, room, that did not look nice, so i suppose the rooms differ a lot. Don´t chose the small rooms. The interior decorations in the room make you happy. Only problem was to get taxi to airport, because taxi drove to pardise inn in patong, which obvious is a big hotel. I can assure you that I dont work for the hotel, but of course if you want hotel standards, it´s nothing for you. This is a guest house, but a very good guesthouse.

Thank You so Kindly for taking the time to set the record straight. It's a blessing as so far our replies to the previous two reviews haven't been posted. We were very surprised by the two recent bad reviews since we've been open for 10 years and have lot's of regular Guests.

And also we found out why the two folks complained in the last couple reviews. The police were feeling sorry for the open air bars nearby after the bad low season on account of the political problems with Red Shirts in Bangkok. So somebody granted the bars permission to open late (till 4 a.m. instead of 1 or 2), which meant they had that much more time to get drunk and turn up the music more. The bars also apparently thought the overtime permission included a free for all on noise pollution. Most of our guests didn't notice (on account our rooms are extremely soundproof) or were entertained by it. But as of a couple days ago when the first bad review showed up (even though it said Dec 12, it was apparently held for review until posted around Dec 26), we pulled out our decibel meter and lodged a complaint with my friend the Police General in command of Phuket. Seems to have quieted down immediately as of yesterday, I can bark pretty loud when our Guest happiness is at stake :-).

Also, we welcome all guests with a smile and please note that for service during the hours of midnight till 13:00 when the restaurant on the ground floor of Paradise Inn is closed, you can either dial "140" or "0" to be directly connected to our sister property Karon Cafe only 50 meters away and your needs will be serviced immediately. We kindly apologize to our Guests who didn't notice this information in the room.

And for all our readers, please kindly check our website for accurate photos and information about Paradise Inn. The photo of the small room type in our website is exactly the smallest room in the house, as a general rule the small rooms are perfect for a single traveler on a budget but feature enough space and storage for two "good" friends to sleep together in the queen bed:-). We also have rooms on our backside for folks who don't appreciate the people watching on the front side:-)

We also kindly encourage everyone to come and inspect our rooms compared to other popular guesthouses in our area, I can guarantee you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Thank You Kindly and Happy Traveling,

Eric and the Team at Paradise Inn

“Skip the well decorated hotel website and stay elsewhere”

We stayed for one night at this place and had to leave. Our room faces a music bar which playes extremely loud music at night until 3-4am. The night is a total nightmare during our stay at Phuket.

Despite of the nice pictures on its website, the hotel doesn't even have a frontdesk downstairs. We had to check in somewhere else 50 meters away and got the key. Of course if you need anything at night there is nobody there for you, and no one will pick up the phone call.

The room is small, dark while basically clean. Many staff don't speak good English. Don't know how come they got so many great reviews. Guess the managers and staff wrote by themselves.

Dear Readers,

We kindly state for the record. These guests obviously didn't notice the classification of our property is Guesthouse. They also apparently only looked at a couple photos and can't read in clear English what our property description is. And we are the only property in this category in this area which features solid marble floors and granite bathroom counters. Soundproof windows, and is completely refurbished every year. To be quite frank, our rooms make all the other (now better) ranked guesthouses look like dumps. We kindly encourage somebody to try the others and then try us.

Also, The photos in our website are all actual photos from our property. Also, the room floor plans shown are the actual scale CAD drawings I used to build and redecorate the property.

And yes it is true we share morning reception services with our sister property about 50 meters away (the distance from reception to the lift in large resorts) in order to keep cost down. However, you can call to reception directly from your room by simply dialing "0". And we offer full services during the hours from 06:00 until 24:00. That means room and drink service etc..

There is no deception on our website, if you want a resort then pay for it. If you want comfortable budget accommodation right in the center of town only 5 minutes walk from anything including the beach, Paradise Inn is for you.

We kindly appreciate potential guests to definitely check out website to find out all correct details. For those who can't read such as these reviewers, then we can't help you.

Happy Traveling,

E

“AVOID !!!!!!!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 December 2010

We booked a stay at Paradise Inn because of the good reviews on Trip Advisor ( which i now think management writes) we were suppose to stay here 10 nights but left after 4.

We asked for a minibus to pick us up from the airport which after waiting an hour for still never arrived so we got a minibus from the airport to our hotel which cost 180 instead of the 750 the hotel was going to charge us !!

Once we arrived we were "greeted" by some waitress that checked us in and demanded we hand over our passports straight away, she very rudely checked us into our room.

The hotel is opposite a very lively bar that plays loud music into the early hours and despite reviews saying you can hardly hear it, we could make out every word of the songs playing. We asked the next afternoon if we could move to a back room or side room away from the noise to which we were told that we had to pay more for the room and if we did not like the music then we should leave !!! to which we complied and the next day we left and found alternative accommodation at half the price.

In a nutshell if you want to be spoken to very rudely by waitress and pay alot of money for a room that is opposite a night club and dont mind not sleeping then this is the place for you.
As for customer service here it is not visible the hotel is run by waitress from the restaurant below they have very small english speaking skills and even smaller customer service skills, no hello when you walk in the door just evil looks.
Worst place i think i have ever stayed in and ruined our trip to Phuket.

Dear Readers,

These guests obviously didn't choose the right property. But in fact they stayed 6 nights not 4 even though we offered to release them without cancellation penalty (we had other guests waiting for the room these folks had since it has a balcony overlooking the street and nightlife, incredible people watching from the balcony and then you just close the soundproof doors and you're back in the room, it's like being in the VIP room of a nightclub). They booked our airport transfer for which we sent the driver out there to wait for them and then when they saw the mini bus for 180 baht per person, they decided to save their money and left our driver sitting there. This is the kind of people they are. Our driver wasted 3 hours and 300 baht in gas for nothing and we didn't even charge them. Imagine what the size of the carbon footprint the folks are leaving around the world.

Our staff at Paradise Inn have worked with our company for over 10 years so we wonder why the evil eyes after the taxi stunt. Please check our other reviews both for the restaurant "Las Margaritas" and here to see plenty of folks feel differently about our staff.

We strongly suspect this review was posted by these folks after getting some compensation from the next place they stayed because they didn't even review the next place to give us an idea where they went. And if I was owner of one of the competing guesthouses, I would definitely be jealous of how nice our rooms are compared to theirs.

Happy Traveling,

Uncle Eric
