I started my Thailand vacation with five nights at Dewa Phuket, together with my husband. We had one of the top floor studio apartments and were quite pleased with it. There was both a balcony and a private roof terrace to this apartment, great for privacy. The apartment was functional and comfortable, particularly the bed which is the best I have had in Thailand. If you like the layered beds in Scandinavia and the US, you will love the beds at Dewa. Medium firm mattress with a lovely, thick mattress top pad. Perfect! We also appreciated good filter coffee and real milk in the kitchen, very nice touch. The air condition was excellent, separate ones for bedroom and living room.
Dewa is a four star hotel and a good one at that. It is clean and well kept up, nicely furnished in a somewhat minimalist style. The breakfast was good, with the hot dish cooked to order and a buffet of fruit, bread, cheese etc. We loved the roasted macadamia nuts with the fruit salad! Unfortunately, the last two mornings we spent there, they were clearly understaffed and things were a bit chaotic. It took about 45 minutes before we had the chance to even order our eggs. The guests were refilling the coffee machines on their own, gotta have coffee you know!
On the bright side, we had a very enjoyable dinner at their Terrace Grill one evening. Steaks cooked to tender perfection, warmly recommended.
There are two smallish fitness rooms on the premises. With free weights, mats and yoga balls, we both managed to get a good workout done. Not a great gym experience though.
We had one spa treatment, a 90 minute massage that was on the special offer menu. It was a nice way to loosen up after a long flight and we thought it was pretty good value. The hotel will slip a small news flier under your door every day, check it out for daily spa, restaurant and activity specials.
There were some small annoyances: After rain the balcony would remain wet forever as there was a steady drip from the roof in several spots, and we had to carefully position the chairs to avoid getting wet. An awning would help. Also, the shower was always alternating between warm and uncomfortably cold. I was wishing for a thermostat faucet.
Still, just minor things. We would stay there again.
The beach is quite dirty and there was some broken glass. I would not venture out there barefoot. We were both wearing Vibram fivefinger shoes there and had no problems.
