“Horrid Xmas!!!!!!!!!!!!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2012

This Holiday Inn may be fine for an overnight stay before going on to Europe, but as we had a Xmas holiday package booked through a tour operator, although the operator in fairness said that this was the first time they had done a xmas package with this Holiday Inn, then I have to say that I would NEVER return as there was not one bit of holiday atmosphere, the staff, apart from a couple of the male waiters in the restuarant were surly and to have to be served a carvery in a queue and help ourselves to veg etc., on xmas day,was not our idea of a xmas break. We did not know this beforehand as the itinery was in the room on our arrival. To be fair, the room was clean and adequate but the bed was rock hard. Also, the breakfasts were excellent, but as a xmas package, it certainly was not worth the money.

Room Tip: The hotel did not give any problems regarding noise.

“Great location for euro tunnel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 December 2011

Stayed here for an overnight stay before travelling to France. Great location. Large room. Friendly staff.

Only downside was breakfast doesn't start till 730 on. Saturday which is late if you need an early start

“Handy hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 November 2011

Good location by road or rail, and pleasant surroundings (if you ignore the traffic on the A20!) Rooms are reasonably sized with arm chairs (so often lacking these days) and great to have tea/coffee making facilities. We ate in the hotel restaurant and the portion sizes are enormous! Staff were always helpful.

“Great room, great staff, great weekend”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 November 2011

Stayed for a weekend just for a change of scenery (we don't live far away). We got a good deal for B & B through Hotels.com. There's plenty of car parking space. Check in was easy. We were given room 18, a really nicely laid out room, very comfortable and very clean. A minor problem with the t.v. not working well on the 1st night, but was ok the next day. I think it was probably the weather. Room was very very quiet (bliss).

There was a warning notice that a reception would be going on until 1am and might cause some noise but that the hotel had tried to accomodate everyone away from the party. We were only a few doors down and heard nothing, but thanks for the warning.

There is a Beefeater nearby that we tried to eat at the first night but after waiting almost 20 minutes for someone to take our order we left and went back to the hotel restaurant. The restaurant was almost empty and we were served straight away. The menu is quite restricted but the food we had was extremely good and not badly priced, 2 course dinner for two with champagne £60. Breakfast both mornings good, but wouldn't pay the full rate which is always extortionate.

The next evening we had room service, The menu is the same as the bar menu; also limited but very reasonable, i.e. £9 for burger and chips and there was no tray charge.

There is a pub directly to the front of the hotel, but this was closed, I don't know why, maybe it only opens in the summer. The hotel bar is in the lobby and was fine for a couple of drinks whilst watching the football on ESPN sports, a big plus for us as sports fans.

The staff we came into contact with were all local people, lovely to see. All staff were very personable and helpful.

There is a mini-gym and ice machine located on the 2nd floor but we didnt use either of these.

Wi-fi is available in the lobby, but we couldn't get the connection to work in the room. That was the only real downside.

I would stay here again if we wanted the same absolute chill-out weekend we had. There's only the Beefeater within walking distance so don't think I'd stay here if I wanted to go out and about.

“excellent stopover”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 November 2011

After a quick check in we found our room at the end of a quiet corridor. The room was excellent, clean, quiet and comfortable. We went out for a chinese takeaway and the staff at the hotel gladly gave us plates and cutlery .We didn't eat breakfast at the hotel as we had an early start to catch a ferry ,A really good hotel we would stay again

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the rear if you want a quiet room
