“Beautiful accommodations, beautiful location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 March 2010

We stayed at the Sunset Beach Guest Lodge for a few nights before we started our trip along the Garden Route. We found it to be very beautiful and very well maintained, and we found the staff to be lovely and the meals delicious (we only had breakfast, though other meals were available some nights of the week). It was quite expensive, but we enjoyed it.

“Lovely beach location, but rather expensive for its class.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 December 2009

What a wonderful location - right on the beach and with lovely views of the ocean!
Dave was a great host - showed us the rooms and organised a horse ride on Noordhoek beach the following day. (Sleepy Hollow horse rides)
The rooms are white white white! The only room in which I've ever needed to wear my sunglasses! :-) Decor is shabby chic, and typical beach house, nicely organised. We did enjoy our stay, but my only gripes were the Queen mattress which was saggy and needs replacing - and the price. For R900 per person per night (and not per room!), this is expensive for its class of accommodation - there are much better value places to stay.
Choose a twin room, and a room with some light excluding blinds, and this would be a great relaxed beach retreat! :-)

“What a gem!”

I can not believe the luck we had, finding Sunset beach guest house! It's absolutely fantastic and it was a lovely start on our trip in the Cape town area.

We stayed at Sunset beach in Kommetjie for four nights in February/March and really, really loved it and hated to have to leave after only 4 days. Kommetjie is a great place to stay if you need to relax or if you want to explore the Western cape area. Cape point is only a short drive away.

The guest house is the kind of house a well off aunt would own, and we were all reminiscing the summer place that my late grandmother owned. The location is fantastic, it's right on the beach and you can walk barefoot all day. The rooms are very cute with to die for views of Sunset beach, and it was so relaxing going to sleep listening to the waves in the back ground. The gardens are beautifully kept and very clean. I'd live there if I could. The photos of the home page describe the place just as it is and I don't understand where the negative reviews I've read here on Tripadvisor are coming from. The rooms are not huge and the decor is shabby chic, but if you like the style in the photos, you are going to love the place.

Our hosts Dave and Charlotte are the nicest and they bend over backwards for you to feel at home. We had a small mishap with our rental car and within minutes Dave had it fixed! That's the kind of courtesy and service you won't get when you stay in large hotels. Charlotte also helped me arrange scuba diving locally.

I emailed the guest house directly a few weeks before we arrived, asking about vacancy. Charlotte replied very fast, so the booking process was a great experience too.

The reason we stayed there was to celebrate my mum's birthday, and Charlotte had arranged for flowers, chocolate and a bottle of chilled champagne in her room on our arrival. A great touch which my mum loved!

The breakfast is great, you get a lot of choices and it's cooked to your liking. You'll also get spoiled by fresh cup cakes or croissants every morning. The staff is all very nice and we really felt at home at Sunset beach guest house. We are definitely staying there again, hopefully for a longer period than only 4 nights.

“absolute go!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 November 2008

The last two nights of our trip (ending Nov. 14, 2008) we spent in Kommetjie at the Sunset Beach house. It is absolutely beautiful! Small beach house (max 10 guest), in the dunes at a lovely white beach, near Cape Town. The rooms have a stunning view (see the pictures). Staff is friendly and professional, everything is clean and nice. Two very nice central rooms with a fire place and comfortable chairs where you feel like home. A perfect stay for honeymooners, people with children to have some relaxing days at the beach (we saw whales!).

The guest house and locations is nicer than we expected based on the their website and brochure. Fortunately a family member recommended us this place.

Absolute Go!

“Four month later and it still stands out.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 June 2008

We will go back, it's a matter of when. The experience was wonderful for us. (2 adults and 3 kids.) Clean friendly safe with one of the best beaches we have experienced. Great place to stop out of Cape Town and start the Garden Route. Steps to the beach and return to a fantastic dinner. Stayed 2 nights.... not enough.
We spent 3 weeks in SA and look back on the Sunset as perhaps the best accommodations on our trip!
