My husband and I stayed 2 nights at Casas da Lapa and we just loveded the experience. We ususaly do some weekend escapes in Portugal so we can say we know lot's of country houses but, no other was as tasteful and charming as Casas da Lapa! All aspects of the house are 5 *: the "house keeper" - Dona Lusitana - is lovely , very polite and helpful (we arrived very late but we had tea and cookies waiting for us in the room...); the rooms are spacious (we stayed at room n. 3) and very weel decorated; the food is very good and tasteful (at leasdt he breakfast and the pool snacks cause we didn't dinner there. We went to Museu do Pão restaurant wich we advise) and the pool and the surroundings are not very spacious but there is a deck with sun beds that can be used for some quiet time alone.
Overal - loved, will go back and recommend the stay to everybody!

A great location for exploring the Serra de Estrela. We stayed 2 nights. The hotel rooms are modern with big windows that open to let the mountain breeze in. The staff lets you choose when you want breakfast and we also had them prepare our dinner (quite good & excellent desserts). Since it is so isolated, the free use of the internet in the comfy lobby may be a plus for some. Staying at Casas da Lapa places you in the heart of the scenic area - a true get-away vacation. We used our car to explore the Torre, the Bread Museum in Seia, and the small villages nearby. There are ample trails for hiking in the area. Our advice, get a car with GPS navigation as you will need it to find the hotel and for exploring the mountains. The road to the hotel is narrow and almost removes your side mirrors but it is worth it and this has become part of our vacation story.

Excellent place at the small Lapa dos Dinheiros. The Hotel has 8 rooms and is only 3 years old. Very comtemporary design inside while keeping the Serra da Estrela mood on the outside, including the all stone exterior.
Lots of nice amenities. Including wine tastings from the owner's father own cave.
The staff is certainly a highlight of the Casas da Lapa, always available, helpful and also very nice people with excellent advices for trips around the region.
Free Wi-fi, lots of DVDs they borrow for free (the rooms all have DVD players).
Excellent to rest, excellent for those who like mountain biking (they keep 2 excellent bikes in case you can't bring yours). The gym is small, but with so many outdoor space i don't think you will want to exercise confined anyway.
At last, but not at least. The kitchen women are the best, cooking traditional portuguese dinner every night.

We've stayed in Casas da Lapa for two nights and we've loved. Very nice architecture, very nice rooms, with jacuzzi, DVD player and especially a great great view, two very comfortable living rooms, a swimming pool, a small gym, sauna and a great staff. Everyone is very sympathetic and make you feel comfortable. You may use the internet freely and take some DVD or magazines to your room. The breakfast is very tasteful with regional food. The dinner is quite expensive, but very good.
It is not very easy to reach the house, especially when you arrive to the small village where it is located. The streets are very narrow and always climbing, but it is worth.
