We researched a lot of hotels before settling on this one for our honeymoon this year...being the off season in Phuket at the time the beach was not going to be the best so it was important to have a nice hotel to spend time in. We were going to book in at a hotel up on the cliff on Karon beach as it had a private pool however decided it was a bit out of the way son booked a pool access room at Kata palm. This hotel is in a great location in the centre of Kata's main road within easy walking distance to resturants, shopping and the beach. The pool access rooms are wonderful and worth the extra cost with a private patio with steps straight into the pool, the room was large and clean with a mix of modern and traditional styles and was very comfortable. There were a lot of families with children in the hotel but this didn't really worry us as the pool is long and narrow and snakes around the whole resort so you are not surrounded and there is still an 'adult' environment and not kids running everywhere. We had massages by the pool which seemed to be about 1/3 the price of the day spa and the little resturant was great for lunch but we ate out every night with heaps of good resturants near by....highlights were ' the boathouse' and "bella vista' both right on the beach and a little more expensive silver service style dining however there are plenty of authentic and cheap thai places also. There are lots of markets for shopping but not really any normal shops, the beach was pretty rough due to the season but did have a little bit of surf which my hubby was pleasantly surprised by.

For the atmosphere, it depends on your preference. The hotel has Thai decorations and plenty of green plants around the pool. This is quite different from the newer modern and chic hotels around Kata which probably have better facilities but will lack Thai and beach feel to it. To be brief, the nice things are garden, lobby, strong shower, cleaning, pool and the not-so-nice things are worn down elevator, furniture, hearing the next room through a connecting door. Location wise, it's great. Still have to walk around the wall put up by Med Club which also blocks direct walk to most hotels but it's like a 5 mins walk at most and gets u right to the middle of the beach. Probably all the best restaurants are next to the hotel (left) as well as a local market. The restaurant at the hotel has live music (with annoying Hawaiian sound making electric guitar and stereotypical English singing with Thai accent) on weekdays and traditional dance in Friday (probably more interesting). Pool is overrated on most comments but nice enough to spend some time with a drink at the pool bar.

I stayed 6 nights and was very impressed with the room, the staff and the breakfast. It is in a very convenient location, only 5-10minutes walk to the beach and only 2 minutes to restaurants and shops. The room was a decent size for 2 and was immaculate. It was cleaned every day. Breakfast has a lage selection with both western and asian selection. The pool area is very nice. The only problem was mosquitoes in the evening, but this was found everywhere we wen and was easily solved with some aeroguard.

Have stayed at Kata Palm for 14 nights and absolutley loved the place. Its a cheap but comfortable hotel, close to the shops and restaurants. My standart room was on the top floor with a nice spacious balcony. My friends had a room on the ground floor and had to deal with mosquitoes every night, so i wouldn't advise the ground rooms. Breakfast, didn't have a huge choice, but you can ask for omelets, fryed eggs, bacon, pancakes and they ll cook it infront of you. Mini bar has good prices, unlike european hotels. staff is very helpfull and polite. 10 min walk to the beach, they have only two computers for guests to use internet ,so take your laptop. will definitely recommend this hotel.

Spent 10 days at this resort in August. Arrived 9 pm and the check in was very easy and hassle free. Staff were very nice and welcoming.
We stayed in a Pool Access Room which I definitely recommend. Our room number was 137 which is probably the best room to stay in as it is directly across from the pool bar, approx 10 meters, and you can meet alot of people as they drink at the bar or are just casually swimming by. Other good room numbers are 135,136, 138 or 139. The rooms are very spacious and clean and are serviced daily. The bar fridge is very reasonably priced just in case you run out of beer or mixers for your duty free booze. The pool closes at 7 pm and doesn't allow swimming after this time which is the only issue I had.
Breakfast was Ok . You could get your usual western breakfast, bacon, eggs etc, which was absolutely fine to start off the day.
If your planning on staying here, make sure you pack your aurogard or mosquito repellant as the mossies do bite at night out on the balcony and keep your screen doors closed.
The resort is very central to all the bars and restuarants in the area and taxi's and tuk tuks are very accessable just outside the resort.
If planning day trips, the staff at reception are great and can arrange anything and everything for you.
The free internet in reception is very convenient, but choose your times to use it as it can get rather busy, so avoid breakfast, early evening and check out times when the traffic in reception is heaviest.
Overall, a great place to stay and very affordable.

Have a great trip.
