“Nice but not clean”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

Booked run of house room and was upgraded to pool access room.
The room is nice, stylish and well appointed. Nice, big and soft - beach towels. All in all great hotel, except two things that I did not like:
-the room was not very clean - mirror and bathroom doors had stains, there was extremely strong smell of cleaning chemicals in the room which stayed in the room for almost two days, flowers in the bathroom were rotten and were more a health hazard than a nice touch that it supposed to be, balcony was not cleaned after previous guests - found some cigarette butts on the floor.
-upon check in I was wrongly accused of having broken a glass and asked to pay for it.

“Nice room, really great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

My husband and I stayed here 3 times during our honeymoon around Thailand (our base as we went to different areas), all 3 times in different rooms.
The location was awesome, it was so easy to get to the beach and main street, yet tucked away enough to be quiet, and raised enough to have a lovely view and staggered layout. The hotel is built around a series of staggered pools and gardens, each room having a verandah overlooking this. Very pretty.
The higher floors definitely have the best view out to the sea (some of the lower floors do not), however they are more of a distance away from the entrance (2 elevators, and a walk between of about 80m along a corridor). We didn't find it bad, but the elderly, people wanting to have a lazy holiday, or people with mobility concerns may. The main entrance is also up a fairly steep concrete hill.
Each room was really nice and modern, with concrete floors, a big TV, a nice bed and a really spacious shower. It was mostly clean, except the curtains always had grubby stains on them, and once or twice the pillows and towels had stains. Otherwise really nicely maintained, especially the bathrooms.
On one of our stays we were upgraded to a pool access room. Although the room itself was bigger, I actually did not prefer it myself. The rooms are lower (in order to access the pool) and therefore do not have as good sea views, and we spent our time there with the neighboring children swimming in front of our verandah. May be good for someone with kids, but not so great if you are looking for a quiet stay, or want a quiet drink/read on the verandah, etc. It also meant we had to have the curtains shut almost the whole time to have a sleep, privacy, etc, as the kids were right outside. Again, this may be great if you have kids that are really social. I would recommend the rooms without pool access on a higher floor :)
The only downsides: the air conditioning was an issue each time (in each room) that we stayed here (maybe despite the dial they might be automatic?). The one night that we set it to 15 degrees it finally read around 23, which was good ;) It might make it hard for some heat sensitive people to sleep.
Also, the staff are really not very friendly, quite noticeably compared to many other Thai hotels we stayed in on our trip. However, once you're in your room it doesn't matter too much. Also, the staff we spoke to on our visits did not have very good English, and we had difficulty asking for things like another towel, or for a bowl and spoon, etc.
The rooms did not have an iron, we had to ask for this when we needed it. This may not be a problem for some, but it was difficult for the girly part of me ;)
The breakfast had good variety (cereal, rice dishes, fry up, an egg station, pastries, juices, and so forth), but each day the quality of the food was not so good; much of it was over/under cooked, very oily, left cold, coffee run out and not refilled, etc. It was convenient, but it would have been more fun to find breakfast elsewhere.
One cool thing, one of the standard rooms we stayed in had the bathtub on the verandah instead of in the bathroom, which was nice as you could see out to the beach. Not all the rooms had this though, so you would need to ask specifically.
Overall, without the breakfast and with a room on a high floor, I would definitely stay here again, very modern and stylish, and a great location :)

Room Tip: The higher floors have the best view. I actually wouldn't recommend the pool access room, as th...

“Perfect location and nice design”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

The room are spacious and well designed and I was lucky to be upgraded to aroom with a personal jacuzzi on the balcony. The location of that hotel is perfect. You're only 5 min away from the main street and the beach but at the same time, it's quiet and calm around the hotel.

Free wifi was convenient and worked well, but the TV channels available in the rooms were variable. For long periods of time, a lot of channels were not available.

The breakfasts were ok. Everything was fresh, but without a lot of variety. The price of items in the "Minibar" were the lowest I've seen in my life.

Although very friendly and attentive, the desk staff mastery of the English language is limited. It was annoying never to know if they really understood you.

The only big disappointment for me was what they called a "fitness center". A small room with about 6 machines that were not really working (the weight lifting machine was all rusty) and I was never able to start the treadmill.

Room Tip: If you have mobility issues, try to get a room in the lower level, closer to the reception.

“Hillside with a view”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 January 2012

This hotel is built alongside a relatively steep slope and requires some walking; it may take two lifts to get to the room. This is common among Kata hotels (the nearby Tropical Garden Resort is the champion with its large maze of corridors, lifts and connections between buildings). But any reasonably fit (or not too lazy) person can handle it. However, it may be a problem for old or unfit people, who should avoid it, especially because of the slight hill that must be climbed (on very hot weather) from the main Kata street to get to the reception level. On the upside, this makes the hotel totally tsunami-proof, in case you want to know.
The style of the rooms is modern, simple and comfortable. There are large balconies with chairs, with great seaviews in some rooms, but not all. When you check-in do study the building from the reception and ask the staff to point exactly what is your room before going up, in case you want a better one. Some rooms are on corner (such as 1604) and have unobstructed views towards both north and west.
There are many small pools along the building, but with Kata beach 5 minutes away I never tried them.
I get the impression that groups do not stay here, which makes for a varied mix of customers, including many Russians, which are more and more a presence in Kata, besides the traditional Scandinavian middle-aged crowd, which is still the vast majority.
The hotel is a bit on the expensive side in high season but very much worth the money.
The downside is the internet: the signal is not very strong and gadgets cannot always connect from any place inside the room; it was easier on the balcony. Management should look into this and install more routers.

Room Tip: Select a seaview room located on a corner.

“Great room and excellent location!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 January 2012

The room surpassed my expectations. For a single traveller, it was massive and i absolutely loved the bath tub. The location was also really great as it was VERY close to the beach, restaurants and shops.
One complain was the elevators are at opposite ends and the rooms right at the top of the hill is a workout on it's own if you walk back every single time.

Room Tip: Try to get a room NOT at the top of the hill, unless you want a work out every single time you get b...
