“Look no farther - This is the ONLY place to stay in Ireland!”

My husband had business in Ireland for 3 months in the Shannon region from July 2010-October 2010. We knew it would be a once in a lifetime experience, so we decided to take the whole family, which includes 2 children(ages 5 & 3). We knew we could not stay in a hotel, so we began the search for the perfect place to call home for our three months, and we found it in Mount Cashel. There is not enough wonderful things to say about, well, EVERYTHING! From the essential food items that await you when you arrive, to the amazing views of the property, and the thing we miss the most.... the Shanahan family. We stayed in Lodge #2 for a week and the rest of our time was spent in the Stables. Both are absolutely amazing. The view from the lodges is breathtaking to say the least. I loved making dinner in the kitchen with the patio door open to the amazing view of the lake, and of the kids playing. The Stables have nothing but room, and I still miss the ambiance of the views in the family room mixed with the peat & wood smell coming from the fireplace. My children loved the animals all over the property, and what an amazing experience to wake up in the morning and take the kids out to check for fresh eggs to have for breakfast! Buster and Bella(the family dogs) are missed by the entire family, as they are usually the first of the Shanahan family to greet you and will check up on you to ensure you are enjoying your stay. I would come back here to stay if we were bringing family to tour Ireland. It is a great base for all your sightseeing. All the most beautiful sights are within a reasonable driving distance. We only stayed overnight one time somewhere else to do sightseeing, and that was because we went to Dublin and wanted to do numerous things in the area. The worst thing of the entire experience was leaving! We will be back to Ireland, and we will stay here.

“Qunitessentially Irish. County Clare Style.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 June 2010

There is a certain something about Ireland and its people that captures the imagination for many on this side of the Atlantic. Its lure and its lore. Its many legends... and leprechauns! But beyond imagination is the genuine hospitality of the Irish. That is what draws us.... those of us who wish to be part of the land, reconnect with family... or hope to find them... and the reason we are drawn back, time and time again. Pat and Annette Shanahan and their family are quintessentially Irish... they welcome you into their home; they offer comfort and a grand stay; they generously share stories of Ireland and its people; and they leave an impression on your heart and soul that will stay with you forever. If you're fortunate enough to visit Ireland and hope to experience a truly Irish welcome, you will find that and more at Mt. Cashel Lodge. If, however, you're expecting it to be a good place from which to do business "American style," you'll be missing the point of it all. And you'll be missing Ireland. Best to stay at Best Western... stateside.

“Just ok”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 June 2010

I traveled here with a group. The accommodations were ok. The beds were so-so and we had to shower in shifts to make sure we had enough hot water. It all worked out ok, using shifts and making sure the dishwasher was not run before anyone showered etc. The grounds are absolutely beautiful, well maintained and tranquil. We also thought there would be wireless internet but there was not. There was one wired port we had to share. Eventually someone in our group bought a wireless router so the main house had wireless internet.

Dear reviewer,
We are sorry and surprised to read that you did not enjoy your experience at Mount Cashel self-catering accommodation. The property plumbing is designed for 4 simultaneous showers, however the hot water tank needs to replenish thereafter for approx 30 minutes. This is standard for self-catering in Ireland which is not hotel standard. We regularly have two families in the property and never have received a complaint regarding showers. Your booking with 8 adults on a schedule was unique and perhaps we need to consider such a booking in future.
We provide free high speed broadband internet access and informed the renter it was cabled for computer access. Normally if guests are planning to use up to 8 computers, they bring their own wireless router. This was not raised as an issue during your visit. We have since installed a wireless router.
We are glad you enjoyed the grounds.

“Top Notch Experience”

Mt. Cashel was probably our favorite place to stay while in Ireland. The lodge is decorated as though the owner lives there. The fridge was stocked with milk, juice and butter. Cookies and bread as well as tea supplies were there for us. What a welcoming place! We enjoyed rowing on the lake as well. The hosts Pat and Annette are very gracious.
