“Delicious breakfast!”

We were given a night away for a birthday present and chose to stay at The Old Cider House as it wasn't too far from our home and had good reviews-we were not disappointed. We did a lovely walk, in a gale but no rain, around Lilstock, taking in the 2 churches and the beach. (Download the walk from Nether Stowey Parish Footpath Group). In the evening we had delicious home made food in the Rose and Crown (excellent vegetarian brie and Mushroom Wellington) before sleeping soundly in the Castle Room. Ian makes 'Furmity' for breakfast which is a creamy porridge with sultanas and rum-it was gorgeous and we will definitely be trying it out at home. I enjoyed the Literary reference as it is what the Mayor of Casterbidge ate before he sold his wife!! A great night away-highly recommended.

“Nice place to stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 November 2011

We had originally booked the place before, and despite the hosts warning us that bookings weren't changeable we had a minor family emergency and couldn't go that weekend. After a bit of wrangling with them, they eventually changed their minds and let us change the date, so thanks very much for that, although not sure why they took such a hard line on it in the first place.

Anyway, the place was really nice, nice big room, very clean and nicely furnished. Stack of DVDs in the drawer in case you want to burn a couple of hours.

Bed was comfy and we slept well both nights we were there, one drawback was our room was on the road, which meant on Monday morning we were awoken by the commuter traffic - but let's bear in mind what commuter traffic in Nether Stowey is like - about one car a minute and it was pretty much time to wake up anyway.

We had a good night in the local pubs, which were warm and inviting. Basic food, but ample servings and good service.

The breakfast they served was great, with thick rich egg yolks (from their own hens?) and just the right sized servings.

Perhaps a little bit expensive at £80 a night, but perhaps that's the going rate in these parts.

Anyway, it was a good place to stay as long as you like dogs.

Thank you for taking the trouble to write a review and we are glad that you enjoyed your stay. Just in case guests take your comment about traffic the wrong way, Nether Stowey is a village bypassed by the main road and is peaceful with only minimal local traffic.

We're very glad that you enjoyed the breakfast and you are correct that the eggs came from our own hens (Monica, Gabriella, Angelina, Bluebell, Eve and Pew).

As for making changes to bookings, the effect of a late change is that the booking has denied others a room and, in this case, left us with an empty room on a weekend night. As a small rural business this really makes a difference. This is why we make a charge - sorry.

Went on a weekend beer brewing course at this delightful, excellent value B&B. Highly recommended even if you are not a beer 'nerd'. Ian and Lynne are superb, natural hosts. Je t'adore labrador Ozzie. Surrounding area has lots of attractions.

“a lovely place to stay”

We spent four night at The Old Cider House with our two dogs and had a really lovely time.
We had a lovely warm welcome on a dark october ev. Our room was spacious, with plenty of room for the 4 of us. We had the ground floor room which gave us easy access to the outside rear carpark and garden and it was equipped with everything we could need, including magazines and books. The food was delicious at every meal, breakfast and dinner, with good home cooking and the service was excellent, We found the Quantocks beautiful and would certainly recommend The Old Cider House to Friends, Family and our Pet Shop customers.

It 's always nice when guests say appreciative things after their stay particularly about our food. We try to source as much of our produce locally with bacon & sausages from our local butcher here in Nether Stowey, fresh new laid eggs from our chickens and vegetables from the garden.

“Unique Gourmet B&B Experience”

On arrival we received a warm welcome from our hosts, Ian, Lynne and Ozy the dog. Nothing was too much trouble and it was such a pleasure to stay in such a friendly place. Our room, which overlooked the garden and courtyard, was very quiet, clean and well-equipped with hospitality tray, magazines and comfortable beds. Ian and Lynne really know their business and what makes a good experience for their guests and took pride in sharing their knowledge of the local history and village life. We stayed on a themed weekend and enjoyed a lovely evening meal, sharing gourmet dishes, all of which were cooked by Ian and Lynne either using home-grown or locally sourced produce, fine local wines and home brewed beer. I would happily recommend this unique B&B to friends and family.
