As the title suggests, amongst a number of words and phrases, nothing quite sums-up the hotel than excellent - though this review is based entirely on the quality of food and staff.
We viewed this hotel Saturday 28 Jan 2012 as a possible place to stay for ourselves and our guests when we marry later this year in a local venue.
At £150 for a Saturday night, the rooms do seem to be a little pricey especially as the decor though nothing too bad, could do with a little attention - as we were only viewing, I cannot comment on the particulars of the room, though in common with most, the price does include breakfast which if it was anything like our lunch shall more than make up for it.
As we were only sampling, we decided that the 2-courses for £11.95 lunch-time menu would be a good place to start as these foods are often at the lower-end of the quality scale - oh how we were wrong (at least with this establishment anyway).
Upon being seated, the table was already set for two courses with preparation for bread and oils for which once our order had been placed, a waiter arrived promptly with a selection of breads after which a pot (roughly 400g) of pitted green olives was also served.
Upon being seated, our drinks order was promptly taken and despite being a busy Saturday lunch with at least four other tables, arrived in moments during which-time our food order was taken.
We opted for mains and desserts: Salmon with Sauteed vegetables and Fettuccini with peas, spinach and roasted red-pepper for mains and Creme Brulee and Apricot Bread and Butter pudding for dessert.
The mains arrived within 20 mins and was to die for; the thoughtful waiting staff had also addressed my pasta choice by altering the cutlery to suit.
The young and on-the-ball waiting staff also realised when we had finished and promptly cleared our table; upon ordering, the desserts were delivered within 10 mins and they like the mains were of an excellent quality though be warned of the apparent error on the menu - the creme brule is to be accompanied by shortbread biscuits whereas only one was delivered.
A quick trip to the toilet confirmed our thoughts when following the old adage of: "Never eat in an establishment without first checking the cleanliness of the toilets" - they too were very clean and well stocked.
On the whole, a very enjoyable lunch despite the apparent busy-ness of a Saturday lunch, total order:
