“Dont believe the nice website photos”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 October 2009

This place is DIRTY - the floor in the room was sticky, dust balls in the corners, there were dead bugs everywhere (including on the towels) and did not improve during our stay (ie was not cleaned properly). The main room in restaurant has a door marked "prive" behind which dogs live and therefore the restaurant smells like dog. Its a pity because it does look nice from the outside!

“Disappointing”

Unfortunately we trusted the Michelin Guide too much when we booked this Auberge for a weekend stay. It was over rated and over priced. Yes, it was listed as a restaurant with rooms, so we were not surprised with the thin walls and poor sound proofing. What we were surprised with was the food. We ate a la carte, so as to give full rein to the chef, only to find it run of the mill (bulked up salads followed by meat and two veg). There was no flair or even mild sophistication. The wine list was also heavily over the top. The food
inc wine for two was £100 (two courses) room £60 breakfast £15. The comfort level was also questionable - stiff seating - table positioned over radiator - stainless steel cutlery with water marks and slow service. There is obviously a market for this type of food but for how long?

By contrast our lunch (a la carte) on the same day, in the centre of Calais, at a restaurant rated by Michelin two below that given to the Auberge was far superior - with innovation and changing fresh-produce menu.

If you wish to stay in a converted group of farm buildings in the middle of a rural community with simple cooking then this is the place for you.

“Vive Le Fiacre! Comfortable; helpful proprietor”

My wife and I had a lovely overnight dinner, bed and breakfast here. Unfortunately we found our car battery had gone flat overnight. On a cold, foggy Sunday morning the Proprietor got his tractor out and helped us re-charge our battery and we were able to complete our journey on time. Wonderfully helpful and charming. Vive Le Fiacre !

“So relaxing”

Stayed here three times now (unusual for us). Nothing pretentious, but well nigh faultless. We particularly like the garden where we have always been lucky enough to enjoy a glass before dinner. Rooms are not luxurious but are very bright, spacious and well equipped. Restaurant prices have increased a little but so has the quality of the meal.
