“AWAY FROM HUSSLE & BUSSLE OF THE CITY CLOSE TO NATURE”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 June 2010

The stay at ecomantra and the activities there were real fun and helped to relax from the monotonous city life.
Food was wonderful and the mango trees did all the wonders with a drop of each mango from the tree.
Food cooked was very delicious.
Of course activities like river crossing and Kayaking added to the fun.
Next days river rafter was also fun but Rafting is always more fun in monsoons.
Other than this the river water was very clean and bathing with river water is a good substitute to steam bath, manicure and pedicure- was really a great experience.
Overall it was a wonderful experience and I look up to revisit for other activities also.

“Great Family Camping/Adventre Option”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 June 2010

Beautiful Location & for amazing adventure that can be enjoyed by one & all of the family then this is the place. Run by an passionate entrepeneur who'll ensure you have a good trip. Dont expect luxury but yes do expect alot of luxury by nature!
The place is very charming, set just next to River Kolad where alot of adventure activities like Rafting, kayaking, etc can be done.
We were there for Team Building Exercise & was great fun.
I must say, its steeply priced.

Hi

Good to know that you loved the camp.

I know a lot of people feel that we are steeply priced. But than a lot of people insist that we are extreme value for money and must increase our price.

My personal take is - We are expensive says you but than compared to what?

For Rs. 2500 (our price after phase 3 in 2011 and maintained at that level since 2008) thats 55 U$D per person all inclusive,
1. we serve you unlimited and very nutritious one cycle of meals without any colour, preservatives or taster enhancers that is freshly made every day using farm fresh vegetable (some organic) and to ensure that this remains - we have no deep freezer and other keeper of stale food
2. All stay in 100% natural green earthern and stone cottages made at 3X the price of making a similar one in more urban enviroment, especially if the site is not in the middle of the river! Every mud brick, stone, wood, bamboo, grass and approximately 500 truck load of construction material was bought on boats!
3. All Eco Adventures - Rivertrail was the first camp in Kolad or anywhere in Maharashtra for that matter which facilitated Kayaking, Canoeing, river Crossing, Boating, Rope based adventures, cycling, bullock cart rides and about 25 other adventures way back in 2004 when eco adventure in India was completely unknown and unsaleable
4. We pay our team members extremely well and even now are the most in demand place for poeple to work. We pay our drivers more than what most nearby resorts pays their GM, if they have a GM that is.
5. We have invested so much money that if we were to take the cost of fund into consideration, we will never, ever, ever even break even.
6. We run this eco camp because we want to - and not because its profitable. Its not yet but the way Indian travellers have responded to the camp i.e. over 30000 travellers have already visited Rivertrail Eco Camp. We are sure that we will do very well in the future too and hopefully travellers will continue to find us great value for money, honest, committed and innovative.

Thank you so much for visiting the camp and thank you for sharing.

“Superb destination for all nature and adventure lovers”

Ecomantra is located at a distance of around 120 Kms from Mumbai. It should have taken us 3 hours to reach the camp, but because of the weekend traffic, it took us a little over 4 hours from Malad, Mumbai. But the look and the feel of the camp was enough to refresh us. The welcome drink did wonders and we were all set for the fun and excitement. And that place gave us all the fun and excitement we expected.
Post lunch, we lazed on the hammocks and enjoyed the beautiful surroundings. The fun activities followed later. River crossing and kayaking were amazing. Even though we were non-swimmers, we trusted the life jackets and the lifeguards and spent almost 2 hours in water.
In the night, the trainers took all the guests for a silent jungle trail. We enjoyed gazing at the stars (which is a rare sight in Mumbai) and looking at the darkness.
Next morning, we went Water Rafting. Although it was more of boating and less of rafting in summers, we still enjoyed it. The trainers were all from Uttarakhand and very good swimmers.
We were all girls and a little concerned about the safety initially. But the people at the camp and rafting were very nice and we felt comfortable instantly.
All in all, an unforgettable trip.

“Roughing out in style”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 November 2008

Myself, my wife and six year old son wanted to take an "eco holiday", not too far from Mumbai, and Ecomantra Rivertrail seemed to be a good idea. It is about a 2.5 hour drive from Mumbai, roads are good and when you get there, you have to cross the river in a raft to reach the lodge! That was fun.

The cottages were built in the most eco friendly manner, using local resources and local material. They are basic but neat and clean, a comfortable bed with a huge mosquito net to keep away the creepies, crawlies and flyies that abound in the jungle. There is an attached bathroom as well.

Very tasty vegetarian food is served on the premises - don't miss the Kokam Sharbat.. The highlight is the range of adventurous activities you can take part in - a short trek to the waterfall (do not miss) followed by a drenching, kayaking, and white water rafting.
They also organise other programs on request including "Snakes-alive", pottery demonstration etc.

All in all, a great trip and a good introduction to a natural way of living for my son!

  • Liked — The ecofriendliness throughout
  • Disliked — lack of backup power

4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 October 2007

Excellent arrangements and food.
Good hospitality.
Team games planned very well but the message should also be communicated in the orientation.
In-House activities planned very well.
However, miscordination when the outside vendor is contacted.Has been observed everytime Rappleing has been done. The organizers of Rappleing are not commited to time.
Their commitment should also match that of Ravi and Maharukh.
