Got a good online rate so was curious as to how this motel experience would pan out.

The Garden City is proximate to most attractions in Canberra. It is an unremarkable building set back on a service road. The road is not unduly busy so traffic noise isn't an issue.

Staff were okay. The dining looked fairly 'motel' generic in look, menu choice and pricing. Better can be found relatively (a short drive) nearby. The pool is marooned in a concrete and brick courtyard looking quite uninviting.

The building and layout is quite utilitarian - almost Soviet in style with empty hallways heading off into the distance. The room was quite nice with a massive air conditioner to keep the hot weather at bay! Bed comfortable, furnishings and bathroom unremarkable. Parking was tight with some having to park out on the road.

In short functional, good value but not particularly memorable. Sometimes that's all you need!

We booked this hotel as a mystery deal with Wotif and were pleasantly surprised. We stayed one night during a recent trip to Canberra to see the Renaissance exhibition at the National Gallery. The room was clean, a decent size and included a flatbed TV screen and Iphone docking station. The bathroom was small but what you would expect - after all you don't live in there. Check in was fast and effiicient and a pleasant surprise was being handed a small carton of fresh milk for tea and coffee rather than the revolting UHT.

After reading the previous review I can't believed that I stayed at the same place. However, this review I would have discounted anyway as it related to a stay 2 years ago. I prefer to post promptly and read recent reviews when making decisions about whether or not to stay at a place.

I would stay here again when I next visit Canberra.

I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the rooms and amenities. Excellent value for money. The staff are friendly and took the time to leave me a long voice message on my mobile explaining how to obtain my room card in the event I arrived after the Reception had closed. Would definitely stay here again. My room was nice and clean, the bed was comfortable and the price was right. I have stayed in 4 star hotels that did not offer as much and which were much more expensive. Great find in Canberra !!!

Booked here for the weekend of the car show- Great deal compared to everything else in Canberra that weekend. This review is in keeping with the value for money for this stay.

Was a bit concerned after an experience with BW in Thailand- but took comfort in the tripadvisor reviews. Thanks fellow reviewers.

Hotel is located slightly out of the city centre but this was not a problem because everything was a short drive away from any point anyway.

Hotel provides free open parking. Check in was not problem. The staff were gernerally pleasant and helpful.

The room we had has been totally refurbished - possibly only the doors were retained. (note to hotel - bathroom ceiling paint was missed though). Definitely not a patch up refurbishment. Very neat, clean and comfortable. Large dresser joinery, large mirror, couch, table and chairs, plenty of drawers etc. Safe, iron, hairdryer, fridge, kettle in room. Large TV with foxtel. (only stating because when we booked (wotif) it was listed as Motel and we did not know what to expect)

Unfortunately noise from the corridoor carries into the room a fair bit.

Room was well cleaned. Shower only - no bath. Toiletries larger than usual- not topped up on second day. As Ally1066 said- the toilet paper is the single sheet dispenser type.

Would stay here again if i had to.
