“A room with a fantastic view”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 February 2011

We had arranged to meet some friends for the Doubtful Sound day trip and Manpouri seemed the ideal place to stay. I liked the sound of this B and B - 'recently built house', 'stunning views' (my words) and we were not disappointed. I kept prevaricating by email about how many nights we wanted and when, but Janice was so patient and helpful and we were rewarded with the perfect place to stay. The pub along the road served good food and we were able to sit outside in the warm sunshine for our evening meal.

“Very nice stay - great views over the lake”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2011

We stayed for two nights in Manapouri and we had a great time. Manapouri is the perfect point to stay when visiting Doubtful Sound - even when the weather is not so great - and you get rewarded by the outstanding views at the lake.
Janice the host gave us a very warm welcome and was very helpful in giving information and tips about the area as well as Te Anau. Thanks for all your kind help.
The freshly baked muffins in the morning were delcious - a perfect start for the day trip into the Sound.

“Waking to this view was one of the highlights of our trip to NewZealand”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2011

The view of Lake Manapouri encircled by mountains from our room was one of the most beautiful of many beautiful vistas we experienced on our trip. Especially memorable was
waking early to see the lake and the mountains bathed in the light of a full moon! Janice has made her ensuite rooms supremely comfortable for her guests. Her breakfasts are delicious and a great way to start your day in Fiordland. Her location is good and is convenient to visit both Doubtful Sound and a 15 minute drive to catch transport to Milford Sound in Te Anau. We highly recommend the Trips and Tramps Nature Tour to Milford Sound which stops for hikes, photos and even a helicopter ride if you wish as well as a wonderful boat trip with a nature guide on Milford Sound.

“Best kept secret of an excellent B&B”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 December 2010

My wife and I stayed two nights at this lovely B&B during our honeymoon in South Island, NZ. From the 3 or 4 rooms available, we chose the one with outstanding views of Lake Manapouri and a mountain range (Cathedral Peaks, I think) beyond.

The room was larger than the average hotel room and had a fair sized en-suite shower bathroom. Having driven about 2 hrs straight from Queenstown Airport to the B&B, we were grateful for a good night's rest in a very comfortable bed.

Our host, Janice, was so warm, friendly and helpful that we felt immediately at home. She served up a hearty breakfast each of the two mornings that we were there, and gave us little muffins for our day drive to Milford Sound.

If you're pushed for time or are feeling a little too relaxed (not hard to get this way with the spectacular views from the bedroom) to drive to Te Anau for dinner, there's always a pub meal from the Lakeview Motel just 2 mins walk north from the B&B.

Just 2-3 mins drive south from the B&B, is the departure centre for one of the major cruise operators in the area. This was in fact, one of the main reasons for us choosing to stay in this B&B. We were booked on an overnight cruise of Doubtful Sound and so wanted accommodation sufficiently close to avoid too early a start to join the cruise.

Lake Manapouri town itself is small, so you won't have as many shops, cafes or restaurants to serve your needs. You'll find these at Te Anau, 20 kms north. Other than this minor (if you have a car) drawback, the location of the B&B was ideal for our needs.

In summary, my wife and I felt Cathedral Peaks B&B was well worth the money spent. We even felt so positively about our stay that we've consistently mentioned Janice and her B&B as one of the highlights of our honeymoon trip!

“All the comforts, with privacy”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 September 2010

With bedroom views of lake Manapouri, this bed and breakfast is modern, comfortable and clean. A hotel experience, without the hotel! Janice (owner) is very friendly and pays attention to the small comforts of her guests. Beautiful decor and an amazing breakfast spread whilst overlooking spectacular mountains is an experience my partner and I are unlikely to forget.
